Investigating is not firing. If literally all they have is a flag… then of course no firing. I’d be curious how many have that flag and aren’t also racially profiling and roughing up their suspects.

So some folks don’t trust cops and other folks in power, which obviously includes the command structure of cops, but those same folks want to give them the power to investigate cops for potential beliefs based on the display of certain somewhat ambiguous symbols (i.e., possession of the symbol alone isn’t he issue, it’s what that possession might imply) in their home.

Those folks really believe, given your distrust of those in power, that the ones being investigated and rooted out will solely be the truly racist cops, right?

Who else is available to investigate? I mean, I’d be okay if the Justice League of American looks into it instead, but that isn’t going to happen. When it comes to investigating cops, we’re kind of stuck with relying on other cops to do it. Sure that’s not optimal, but what else can one do?

How about not investigate for unconstitutional reasons and potential fishing expeditions? Despite what Jpinard thinks, the Nazi flag and the confederate flag are not one in the same. Hell, the latter was hanging from state capitals just a few years ago.

Should black cops be investigated if they have a Black Panther Party flag or a picture of Malcolm X in their house because someone deems that to be one in the same with a confederate flag, just on the other side of the spectrum? Why the blind confidence that such a policy will turn out to be rainbows and unicorns?

That’s a different argument, isn’t it? It isn’t this argument:

I’m objecting to the silliness that some people don’t trust cops yet they want to trust the cops to X. You can make your argument without that nonsense. People don’t have a choice on whether to trust cops to investigate cops.

With respect to beliefs, what discovered beliefs ought to be grounds for an investigation? Are there none at all? Suppose you find evidence that a cop believes all Xs are natural criminals. Look into it, or not? Check cop’s arrest record of Xs, or not? Look for questionable busts of Xs, or not? Look for evidence of false evidence in those cases, or not?

I’m pretty sure you’ll find some beliefs for which it makes sense to investigate. In which case, now you’re just like everyone else trusting the cops to investigate the cops for the beliefs of cops, but you’re just drawing the line in another place.

These are individuals who represent and are part of the public. If they don’t want the scrutiny, don’t be a public representative.

And those state flags were all changed to include the confederate flag in the 60s as a response to the civil rights movement. Not a lot of people know that those flags weren’t around forever. They were a fuck you to black people.

I’m not taking a position about investigating cops who happen to have them, but they are definitely a racist symbol.

Jesus Christ. They need IQ tests for cops. This guy is a fucking moron.

“Get a hold of your dog”, he said to the dying woman.

Too many police are turning out to be the worst enemies to society:

“It was only on July 14th, two days after the incident, that she went to an emergency room, where she was diagnosed with a hairline neck fracture.”

The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York, a police union that represents nearly 50,000 active and retired NYC police officers, has put out a statement on the dismissal of Daniel Pantaleo.

“cops who are empowered to protect them and their families” - hmmmm. How well did that work out for Garner, PBA?

Are there more moustache-twirlingly evil organizations out there than police unions? Good Christ.

Well Garner doesn’t count cause… you know, Blue Lives.

So the thin blue line continues to kill people, and when called out on, instead of saying “this doesn’t represent the best of us”, complains and makes vague threats about public safety.

How does this make them unsafe, exactly? What rhetorical nonsense.
