This is hitting me again; it sometimes does this time of year. She didn’t have to die.
I’d like to say things have changed, but I’m not sure. She was a great friend, who offered advice only a friend can when I was trying to keep my family together. Thanks, Tasha.
You changed the world for the better.

Were they just firing back at the shooters in a crowd of people? I’m not sure how else they shot the child. How sad.
I can’t help but have the Team America celebrating in Paris scene come to mind when reading that.

Yes, that appears to be why they were indicted.

Cops shooting other cops this time.

In a news conference Thursday night, Huffman defended her description of the scene, insisting that the body-camera footage shows officers announcing the warrant before they crossed into the apartment. When a reporter said the video did not show that, Huffman insisted it did and urged the public to view the footage and “make their own assessment.”
It… 100% does not show them announcing themselves, it specifically shows them quietly opening the door as to not be heard, and then shouting as they enter.
There is a link to the body cam footage, which is slowed down. Content warning… obviously.
This looks and feels like a mafia style hit. They run in, and less than 10 seconds unload half a clip into a guy sleeping on a couch who was confused and waking up. He had 0 time to react, and there was no audio of an officer asking him to drop his weapon.
Unbelievable.
Jesus Minneapolis, I thought you’d learned your lesson about this shit already.

Growing up, I always thought of Minnesota in general and Minneapolis in particular as open minded and tolerant – after all, they gave us Eugene McCarthy, Hubert Humphrey, Walter Mondale, Paul Wellstone, Al Franken, Amy Klobuchar, etc. But it seems like MN – and Minneapolis in particular – is the center of shitty racist policing in the United States, based on the number of incidents that have been reported.
For those more familiar, is this a situation where biased data makes Minnesota look worse than elsewhere in the nation because they do a better job reporting the information, is Minneapolis law enforcement just that awful, or is there some other explanation?

I’m pretty sure that racism in Minnesota is not new, it’s just bubbling up more as the state has become more diverse. Amplified, of course, by the “thin blue line” mentality that seems to have infected every American police force.
I remember getting a tow in Minneapolis about 25 years ago, sitting in the cab of the tow truck and listening to the driver ramble on about how so many of “those people” were moving up from Chicago and ruining the Twin Cities.

I can’t re-iterate how insane that body cam footage is.
It looks like an execution.

The released facts are even more damning. The kid killed was not the subject of the warrant, had a license to have that gun, and the police didn’t even attempt any other control.
They just murdered the kid. Came in and started shouting, kid wakes up confused, bam dead. And the official police account lied in two major ways. They said they announced before entry, this is clearly false, and they said Amir pointed a gun at them, also clearly false. He was confused as shit because someone broke in where he was sleeping so he grabbed the gun but never pointed at them because he was processing the situation. Showing far more safety concern and trigger discipline than the cops did.

I can’t believe we still have no knock warrants and serve warrants in the middle of the night. Everyone involved shouod go to jail, including and especially the judge who signed it.
Put these judges in jail and the landscape will change.

Way back when, I suggested that every city could take a lesson from the actual fallout from Breonna Taylor, which did a heck of a lot to prevent no knock warrants and several other common sense reforms to police actions. As I recall, it was shouted down as trying to silence the “Defund the police” is a good slogan idea. Only by a few, don’t get me wrong, but the all-or-nothing mindset prevented a lot of good police reforms.

Not really. When we started rioting and demonstrating about Breonna Taylor, I looked up the Louisville police shootings at the time, mid-2020. There was Breonna and her boyfriend, who shot a cop, David McAtee who shot at cops/National Guard, and two other shootings that were white suspects, both of whom were either suspected of being armed or had dropped their guns during a pursuit and were still killed by the police. The narrative isn’t squeaky clean, is my point.

Being black is an aggravating circumstance to the cops. But they’ll still kill you if you’re white.
