But yea, probably cause it was a white person being killed and no other circumstances affected the outcome.

Reading some accounts of his trial, apparently a fairly big deal was made of the fact that the incident took place in an affluent, largely white part of town. How could the officer feel credible fear considering he was among innoncent, non-violent white folks, seems to be the idea.

This is a pretty amazing decision.

tl;dr: Georgia cop holds family of children at gunpoint, lying on their lawn. Then he tries to shoot family dog (who was not attacking anyone), misses twice, shoots a third time and hits kid. Family sues. District court rules that cop doesn’t get qualified immunity because he was being an asshole who didn’t need to be shooting at anyone or anything. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals says nope, he’s got qualified immunity because he wasn’t clearly violating anyone’s rights and wasn’t clearly incompetent.

Here’s a short article on it. Apparently the kid was only 18 inches away when he was shot. What a travesty of justice that this cop gets away with this bullshit. Innocent kid from an innocent family suffers.
