Several leafy plants on our block would do if it comes down to it! Although definitely not sandpaper fig.

You live in Northern Territory Australia right? Find some gypie. Nice big leaves, should work great!

Reporting back on the booster shot if you had the J & J vax. Both My wife’s doctor and her friend who is the head of clinical trials at Maine Medical Center said there is insufficient guidance to recommend getting the Pfizer or Moderna vax as a booster.
The doctor’s nurse asked my wife if she had heard about this on the internet…
They assured her that J & J has proved effective against the Delta variant. So she is Guatemala bound for work reasons and will take reasonable precautions. She is one of those cheerful brave souls who can’t imagine anything bad happening. And I will try not to worry.
It was discussed a bit upthread when the results were first published but yeah, J&J appears to be pretty effective against Delta. Hope all goes well for your wife.
Honestly, if I got the J&J and was traveling to a country at 94% of its peak like Guatemala, I would go to the pharmacy and get a booster just for my own peace of mind. I agree it probably isn’t necessary, but it isn’t like you’d be taking that shot away from someone else.
Got my first shot today. Astrazeneca. So far I feel fine, but let’s see if that stands.
Should take my second shot by late September, if all goes well. Looking forward to that.

Had my second vax appointment today and topped up the first (AstraZeneca) with a round of Biontech/Pfizer. Had next to nil side effects after the first one, and 14 hours into the second one I haven’t noticed anything yet. Fingers crossed.
Not so flash here in Indonesia. Daily records being set for deaths & new cases, both of which will be low due to lack of testing and not counting deaths not in a hospital. Serious shortages of oxygen & respiratory medicines with accompanying price hikes.
The federal government has imposed it’s first serious lockdown in Bali & Java; well semi-serious anyway. I read it may be extended to other parts of Indonesia.
There are still people who don’t believe in it (covid), don’t trust the government or the vaccines, or like one of my wife’s siblings “trusts God” so won’t get vaccinated. This really irritates me as these people seek medical attention for other things so why is covid different??
So keeping a low profile here. We are both vaccinated but a number of vaccinated people past the 14 days have subsequently died so hmm.
My wife’s ex-husband was hospitalized and has 4 co-morbidities; amazingly & thankfully he survived and is now out of hospital, but we heard his whole family now has covid also.
Unfortunately her cousin passed away from covid this week; she wasn’t super close to him but still distressing of course.
If you got Sinovac, I would basically act like you weren’t really vaccinated. It’s not very good.
Every other vaccine is perfectly fine. The Russian vaccine is great. Only Sinovac is garbage.
Yes unfortunately Sinovac it is.
Sorry to hear that. It’s probably better than nothing, though, to be sure.
Yes it is and there was nothing else. We were lucky to get it as early as we did.
Didn’t see this, congrats. Did you get any side effects?
Not really. Just some very minor pain in the region where the vaccine was injected, and that’s it. Other than that, no noticeable symptoms whatsoever.
Yeah, it was. I was fully prepared for some bad times, which fortunately did not happen. Ask me again in three months, when I’ll get the second dose. ;)
Went into the office for the first time in exactly 16 months today to gather my things. Since we’ve proven it works (and because the leaders are happy to stay home as well) we’ll be allowed to work fully remote. It’s nice to finally have word on what we’ll be doing long term.
My organization is pushing for everyone to return to the office in some form as of August 2nd.
Not sure if it will be hybrid , full time, or what.
I’ve been on the hybrid model since the pandemic started, in the office every other week. I hope that doesn’t change ever. :P
As for vaccinations just about everyone in my family is vaccinated now, except one of my older siblings, who went with extended family to Disney World for vacation this month. ¯/(ツ)/¯
