This is called fatherhood. I look forward to not being tired again in 20 years :D

By the time I’m not tired because of the kid, I’ll be tired just because of old age. It’s hopeless.
I really hope you’re wrong but I’m going to schedule my booster as though you’re not.

Meh, it’s a day or two of flu-like symptoms. Certainly worth it. Even a “mild” breakthrough case can be very unpleasant, and there’s a risk of long-COVID, etc.

No questions whatsoever, it’s just that (as noted) I’m already exhausted from having a kid that won’t sleep, so those couple of days are best planned for a weekend where I can at least partially vegetate for awhile.
You don’t have to sell me, this whole “back in a classroom” thing is great from a teaching perspective but the risks involved are wreaking havoc with my already frayed nerves.

My neighbor, who had his shots, got Covid from a student of his. Thankfully a mild case but his wife ended up getting it from him.

That’s the nightmare. I’m fully vaccinated so I expect I’d be fine even without a booster but I don’t want to transmit to my unvaxxed kid or my at-risk wife. Protection from infection, as provided by the booster, is mostly important to me to help try and prevent that.

Friend was sick, thought it was breakthrough COVID, it wasn’t. Glad because she’s immunocompromised.

Well, I have a new first in my situation. Monoclodal antibody infusion. On Sunday, I started feeling crappy, by Monday I started having elevated temps and trouble breathing. I once again tested negative for both COVID and Pneumonia but ex-rays showed occlusions in my left lung. They determined I was having a relapse. Fortunately, my Pulmonologist is one of the top covid doctors in the Beaumont system and he immediately put me on the waiting list for the monoclonal treatment. He told me that they are currently in high demand/short supply situation and couldn’t guarantee a quick response let alone approval but felt that with my issues of being immuno-compromised and recent hospitalization I should hear on it shortly. He put it in at 6pm and I got a call the very next morning telling me that they could get me in at 3pm that day. That was yesterday. I received the infusion as scheduled and now its wait and see. They said that the effects should start showing up with in 24-48 hours. My symptoms have diminished a bit but that is likely due to the powerful antibiotics I have been on since Tuesday morning. Another good thing about this is that as long as my symptoms improve I will not have to go back into the hospital. So hopefully, I will get this back under control.
One side thing. When I arrived, I experience another new thing. I had to sign disclaimers acknowledging that I was fully aware that the treatment was currently “experimental”, I was taking it completely of my own volition and could stop the treatment at any time. I signed, laughed and said pump me up!
Great that you could get it quickly, and I hope you feel better soon!

Why did they give you the antibodies when you tested negative for COVID? Was it a rapid test and they didn’t trust it?

The reason for this is part of a long story that is explained up thread. The short version is that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and get bi-monthly infusions on an immune system inhibiting chemical called Remicade. It has been shown that Remicade can, in some cases, cause negative results on both the rapid and the PCR test. My pulmonologist considered the symptoms involved, and I have every covid indicator there is, along with several other tests to rule out other possibilities, in order to determine his diagnosis. It seems that the covid tests are just not reliable for me and a negative result can not be trusted. As mentioned above, my pulmonologist is one of Beaumont’s lead covid doctors so his word carries a lot of weight. So yay! I am an aberration!

I mean yes, but CDC has to sign off (expected Tuesday) before they will schedule anyone.

Yeah the NYT says probably Wednesday.
Any idea how this might affect booster supply? Not being selfish, but I do want to get a booster in about two weeks.

It won’t, we have tons of supply in the US.

I got excited for a hot minute, I have to make a run to CVS today anyhow with my oldest in tow (the only eligible one currently), before I remembered that wrinkle.
Damn, but oh well. Next week is ok too.
