I feel like Trump administration right now is like China in early January, with head in the sand. Flattening the curve as a concept probably went over heads of authoritarian like the Donald Trump and Xi Jinping (unless flattening the curve makes them look good, like CCP promoting the idea that they are a leader in this fight). The folks doing essential services have to stay working, especially if it’s stuff that doesn’t require a lot of contact with the public. I feel kinda blessed that I’ll be less impacted than most people from this.

Yeah, like I noted many posts above, there’s no Russell Honore who is going to come in and actually be able to take leadership of this mess. Trump is an idiot and the only people still in his administration are idiots. Nobody with any actual knowledge of how to contain this is going to come to the rescue.

I don’t know how the course changes here. Maybe Mitch McConnell will talk some sense into him, somehow. But Trump also doesn’t like to be taught, so that could backfire just as easily.

I think our only hope is, in this order of likelihood:

  1. Trump dies of Coronavirus
  2. Things get so bad Republicans agree to convict him and throw him out
  3. There is no 3. Other than those 2, it’s just straight-up disaster for months and months, and then recovery will take years.

I hope it turns out I’m being pessimistic, because I’m in full-on freak out mode right now. It’s so bad I wondered today if I should buy a gun, just in case things get post-apocalyptic.
