Best money I ever spent. Had it done in 2004, and still working pretty well. From 1981 to 2004 it was glasses for me. Hoping it keeps going for a while longer still, because it will be back to glasses if they get worse again. Someday maybe they will come up with a way to add more material back in to use in the process.

Things just got real in Denmark.

Frederiksen is closing the Danish borders, effective tomorrow. Anyone who can’t give a good reason why they need to come into the country will be turned away at the borders (exception: Danish citizens, ofc).

All this talk about “we can’t do what the Chinese do” in the West? I think we’re about to be very surprised…

Is there any evidence that Denmark has a really substantially lower infection rate than anywhere outside Denmark (except Italy)? I don’t see the logic of closing borders, but maybe I’m missing something.

I think the idea is to make clear no one should be moving. If you allow foreign citizens moving around, how can you tell your own to strictly stay at home?

Edit: also, see Asian countries success, including with limits on border crossings. I know that language (closing borders) triggers people due to its use in other contexts, but that’s the observable reality.

Government responses aside, I can tell you that here in my red state, everyone now appears to be taking this seriously. I don’t hear any more about liberal media or “it’s just flu.” Schools and professional sports leagues closing were real attention getters.

We also have a major local hospital starting up drive-through testing tomorrow.

West Virginia has testes dozen and dozens of people… oh, wait… I meant “dozen of people”. They have tested twelve since this thing started. Eleven came back negative and one has been “pending” for three days now.

On a more sensible policy for limited imported cases. Tldr - set a policy of quarantine or refusal of entry for anyone with a fever. Not stated, but my suggestion - as with visa requirements (like in China under normal conditions) the airlines would enforce before take off if they are responsible in the event of a problem.
