Can’t seem to get those to show up no matter how much refreshing. Texas is missing too. The count for the US was something like 1700 but now stuck at 1268. I NEED ACCURATE INFORMATION! :)

If anyone is looking for a US centric site this one is decent: https://infection2020.com/

Those early seasons are solid gold.

Anyway here is the CDC’s model if no intervention is taken.

Something, something, missed opportunity.

You watch Chernobyl to see what a well handled disaster looks like compared to the current situation.

Thanks Vesper, this is an excellent map!

Sorry, do you have a link rather than an image for that information?

Seen on Washington Post op ed page.

Ok, look, I haven’t read the article and I’m sure there are lessons to be drawn from this pandemic (as from any disaster) about how we go about our lives.

Still, the rhetorical framing, which seems almost to ascribe moral agency to a microorganism, seems ever so slightly medieval to me.

Surely. It’s from this just published NYT article.

Many thanks :)

And we have a deal.

LOL, of course South Park did it first.

edit: boo, that clip embed isn’t working.

Here’s a worse one.

Let’s stoke down the anxiety just a bit though.

That sounds scary as shit, right?

OK. That’s the shot. Here’s the super, SUPER important chaser from the same article:

In other words, the long-term projection is based on “Here’s what happens if we do nothing to change behaviors and continue to do nothing to change behaviors into the future.”

Once people start altering behaviors – maintaining social distance, working from home in material numbers, canceling sporting events, eliminating elective travel, following better hygiene protocols – the model changes.

That long-term model (if I can return to a favorite of mine) is basically the final ghost on Christmas Eve giving old Ebenezer the real what for: “Here’s what happens if you do nothing.”

Presumably has The Donald’s blessing, so it’ll pass the senate. Who probably shouldn’t be in recess, so they can pass it.

Congratulations West Virginia!

Maybe Black Lung kills the virus?

I have the god damned flu. Almost certainly the “normal” stuff - it’s moved through my family for the last week and a half and there are no respiratory symptoms - but god damnit. This is not helping my anxiety level.

And I’ve developed a gross sore throat / cold as of last night. Temps have swung a lot here this week, and I’ve been careful with hand washing, so it’s probably just garden variety. But it is anxiety inducing.

Are you wearing gloves when you type? Could you remain at least 6 posts away from me?
