I’m just happy we’re not playing hunger games anymore and it’s back to house of cards.

Having a soul is good for the complexion.

Regarding all this testing - here in my neck of the woods we’re kind of scrambling to find the specimen kits (swabs and transport media) that you need before you even get to running a test. And there’s that whole RNA extraction kit shortage that was a thing a whole couple days ago. Have the basic supply line issues been solved, or is this a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing? (Although if it depends on a website linked to all those companies, the 4-12 weeks that’ll likely take probably gives time to fix manufacturing.)

Move it to the top. Or maybe not, make the current events more terrifying

It seems like all levels of government are doing their own thing based on what they have control of (for example, province shut all the schools) but they all seem to have come to the same realization at the same time.

Tomorrows UK papers.

its a bit small so lets zoom in on the most striking sentence.

Fucked if i know to be honest, other than killing off the old and vulnerable as quickly as possible is the most economically efficient method for dealing with the virus. I wouldnt put it past a Tory to choose this option.

After the Ontario school shut down, various cities and towns in Ontario have had further shut downs. In my town, the community centres and libraries have closed until the same time schools open.

Wha…?

OK - I’m going to assume that is some sort of legal mechanism to be able to keep a limited number of schools open in case they decide to mandate closing of schools (as they’ve done here, where schools remain open to take care of the children of essential personnel such as healthcare, firefighters, etc) - otherwise this is absolutely insane.

]No, it makes perfect sense. They wish to control the rate of infection and opening/closing schools is a good tool to help achieve that.
EDIT:
Apologies I skimmed your post rather than reading it properly - it’s been a long day.
Yes, it may well just be for service personnel. It may also be used as a tool to help control rate of infection.

I was told today that I was exposed to it yesterday while doing something for work. Can’t say more than that, but I will not be allowed to return to the US for 60 days. Not sure where they pulled that number, but it’s a government response.

Ug, stay safe

You realize how insane that sounds when you say this? Right - Brighton next - your turn to get this over with. Don’t worry, it will only kill around 0.5% of you (and 10% of your old folks). Stiff upper lip, chaps.

Never mind that the entire argument for not closing schools that your government was making, is that that doing so supposedly has negligible effect on the infection rate. So if this is the argument, then the scientists basically lied through their teeth about that (yeah, no surprises there).

Still, the rhetorical framing, which seems almost to ascribe moral agency to a microorganism, seems ever so slightly medieval to me.

I think that’s a good way of putting it, medieval. It’s not really different than calling it a punishment from god, or Allah.

Mmm,

The university I teach at on Mondays has a confirmed case. I just go Monday’s and spend much time in class, and since the person just reported symptoms chances here are low.

But the coworking space where we have our studio’s office also had a positive. Lots of common areas. I’ve been very strict with cleaning hands, but still…

Anyway, everything closed here and we switched to WFH today. I expect to stay two months pretty much locked at home except for two or three runs a week.

Yeah, it’s just more of the AIDS is a punishment to the gays bullshit.

(I suppose this is racist, but there is a tiny little bit of me that does want to scream at the Chinese “Would you people stop fucking eating bats and pangolins and shit!” But admittedly, I’m overall irritated at the culture of ingesting weird/rare/endangered shit for whatever magic erection powers they think it brings. This isn’t Skyrim. You don’t get +10 to your Virility stat for eating rhinoceros horn.)

That’s awful. Take extra good care.

Incubation time is 2-14 days, so 60 days seems like a massive overreaction. Hope you can get back to your loved ones before then.

Best of luck.

I’m still waiting to hear if the guy who was squeezing past my chair every time he left his desk last week has tested positive. 48-72 hours from yesterday am for results. 7 days today since ive seen him though, so half way through the incubation period.

My company dropped the two team policy and moved all non-essential to WFH, globally. We are required to keep up a headcount on premise though due to regulatory requirements.
