Oh hey guys, I’ve been away for a while!

What’s happeni- … oh.

In other news, I was supposed to be going to Peru next week to do some wildlife photography in the upper Amazon. Cancelled this morning. Pretty gutted, but I guess it was inevitable, and a sensible decision. But man. Also a conference in May in Mexico has been similarly cancelled along with some cool research I was going to be doing. I guess I’ll be at home for a while, watching our dwindling stock of poo tickets.

Local panic nearly shut down the local GP a couple of days ago. Went there to get some routine meds, and the place was deserted. Turns out someone rocked up to a nearby GP and complained about having Corona-like symptoms, people in the waiting room were all hurriedly administered masks, and 25 seconds later it was all over the local Facebook group, wildly spinning out of control, and everyone cancelled their appointments for the next few days. Suited me, fastest GP trip ever!

Waits patiently for the massive influx of memes of every fuckup Trump has ever and will ever do with his signature photoshopped onto it.

Jesus Christ.

Taken down. “The government, oooOoOo” (<- actual response)

I’ll remove it since it no longer works.

I think it is an open question, the government may just require mandatory 14 days quarantine period (which kinda kills it if you are only book for a 14 days trip) for visitors from US, and for consistency sake may have to apply to Chinese visitors as well. Or it could be a blank ban. I hope your booking or insurance allows late cancel or reschedule.

The situation is changing so rapidly I wouldnt even want to guess what restrictons are in place on Monday, let alone the timeframe we see on people asking travel questions.

My post explicitly states that these are the CDC’s models with “no mitigation”. The article continues that new models are being prepared based on our just now starting distancing measures. I’m about to guide a beloved parent through major spinal surgery ( 3/18) that was pushed up from July due to fear of lack of hospital capacity. My fear is genuine and earned. And as always, being told to stay calm and that everything is alright is a privilege that you enjoy on extremely shaky ground.

Holy shit, they really even fucked up the website?! JFC

Good luck to you and your parent. I hope it all goes well, and everyone gets home safe.

Thanks man, and be safe yourself. I work near the NY breakout in Westchester and the chances of my exposure are high enough that I’m not going to be able to even see my father in person before his surgery next week. We’ve gone from, I’m taking off work to see him through the recovery -> no contact.

That sucks, dude. Is there any way that you could at least FaceTime with him or something?

I know pork prices exploded in China, which pushed poorer people to look for alternatives. There was a flu (?) epidemic which wiped out their domestic pork industry, and tariffs made importing American hogs expensive.

The people eating wildlife were definitely not doing so for cost reasons or as an alternative to pork. (Of which chicken and beef were both plentiful). Especially pangolin, which I understand is/was really expensive and also harvested for its scales, not its meat.

Indeed, China is the major factor in any prognostication. Rabobank expects Chinese beef demand to be extremely strong in 2020. That’s because African swine fever has caused pork prices there to triple. “Not only has the shortage of pork pushed consumers to other proteins—including beef—but the price increase now means beef is relatively more affordable,” the report points out.

You are likely good, the vast majority present in about five days.

No one said “Everything is alright.”

Its what this guy

is telling the Government to do.

Taking half day Fridays, I noticed the President of the new company I work for sent a big coronavirus email. At 12:30pm, after most everyone had left, he sent an alert to all the offices that an employee in their Dallas office had tested positive for COVID 19.

BTW, we once again have a deal. Trump has tweeted out his support and full backing, so presumably this gets bipartisan House support and breezes through the Senate whenever Mitch decides to call them back to order.
