It’s the best of humanity and the worst of humanity… ugh.

My mom just emailed that my cousin, who just traveled to Madrid and Morocco and is now back home in Westchester, has all the symptoms. My mood is considerably less optimistic than it was last night! But I guess worry and fear comes with the territory.

These people should just be executed.I’m tired of living in a world with fuckstains like this.

It’s unbelievable. This was like one of that main things they were crowing about to try and make us forget how badly they’ve been fucking this up til now. But now? Now they’re all over it. Just look at this amazing website.

AND NONE OF IT WAS TRUE.

He, pathologically, is incapable of doing anything other than saying what will bring him the most approbation in the moment. What an amazingly unfortunate mental disorder to have at a time like this.

All travellers to NZ required to self-isolate

Except those from the Pacific Islands

Frankly, I’ve been surprised there hasn’t outrage about this lie in the media.

As I posted earlier, the announcement of what I thought was Google, Roche, and Walmart, and Walgreen working together to rapidly expand testing was really great. I thought the market’s reaction was even appopriate.

The fact that is was essentially complete BS was both maddening and depressing. I’m also mad at myself for believing anything the guy says now twice in a week.

Meanwhile in Miami:

I have a bold suggestion. We beat the Commissioner to death with a hammer and feed his body to gators.

I needed this smile tonight:

Loyola Marymount in LA just announced they are going to distance learning for the remainder of the spring semester.

Yes, we know that. My question is why his advice was different to every other country in the world, and Britain going the opposite direction to the entire planet now has the WHO questioning our strategy

World Health Organization spokeswoman Margaret Harris has questioned the UK’s approach to developing “herd immunity” against Covid-19.

Dr Harris told BBC Radio 4’s Today: “We don’t know enough about the science of this virus, it hasn’t been in our population for long enough for us to know what it does in immunological terms.

“Every virus functions differently in your body and stimulates a different immunological profile. We can talk theories, but at the moment we are really facing a situation where we have got to look at action.”

I just wonder if Britons are genetically disposed to doff their cap and do what ever the posh bloke says to them.

This thread has a good summary of the UK strategy (for better or worse).

It’s certainly an interesting approach, but I wonder if it would work in isolation, that is, as the strategy of a single country against the international community and international expert advise.

If we look at China, which is already easing restrictions in many places, what they are doing is enabling huge travel restrictions from countries with running infections. If the rest of Europe’s strategy to stop infection through restrictions works like in Chine or South Korea, the UK would find themselves isolated from the rest of the world with an still ongoing infection and huge infection rates in their population.

And here is some more info.

WTF. That is so so dangerous, given that COVID-19 is very deadly to older people. When (not if, when) there is an outbreak in a nursing home, you will see dead bodies piling up. Assuming the population can build herd immunity (a big if), the price to pay for that immunity is the old people.

And all evidence suggests containment can work.

This is the big one, isn’t it. Containment works so why adopt such a possibly damaging strategy?

The explanation would the that containment would result in new outbreaks once restrictions have been lifted, but I am not sure that’s actually proven. As long as travel restriction to infected areas remain in place, once a population is clean rate of infection should be manageable to control (specially because we won’t be waiting to take measures anymore).

School’s canceled in Palm Beach county for the next two weeks. I’m at home with my 6 year old son, on work leave for two weeks as well. I have a few things work related to do, and I will be in next Saturday, otherwise it’s almost a vacation. Not sure if I’m getting paid, but it’s a minor concern.

Here we go.

The Tory want to use the childrens to infect all the family. Thats where we have. The right want people to die in the way to have 80% of the poeple infected by a deadly virus. USA is just shy about the details, but in UK are open about it.

UK’s plan sounds all very clever, and presumably less disruptive than containment (i.e. GDP takes less of a hit).

From an environment perspective, containment pretty much kills two birds with one stone. Less flying = less carbon emission. Less economic activity in general = less carbon emission.

A modest proposal
