I don’t want him to die but I think everyone would be better off if he spent a couple of weeks on a respirator - except for the person who might be in need of that respirator. Can we wish for something bad enough that would permanently leave him on a weakened state, but still alive so that he can get kicked out in the election and then spend the rest of his time in a jail somewhere?

Nancy Pelosi, consummate badass public servant:

#WheresMitch

Jesus! A genuine compliment across the party aisle? Truly these are extraordinary times.

Also worth mentioning: Nancy Pelosi will be 80 years old in 12 days. I hope she is taking care of herself and her staff is watching out for her.

Jerome Adams for President

Did you guys just hear him at the briefing? He’s phenomenal.

US Citizens and Legal Residents can still return.

Under the restrictions, American citizens, green card holders and others are still allowed to return home to the U.S., but will be funneled to 13 airports and be subjected to health screenings and quarantine orders, according to two people familiar with the plan who spoke on condition of anonymity before the official announcement expected Saturday.

This guy?

Same, which leads to anxiety.

Between that and the mid- to long-term social isolation this thing is going to require, it’s not a great recipe for mental health. Your ‘go outside’ advice from yesterday is one I hope people heed.

At least we have finally resolved the cognitive dissonance of “travel from Europe banned to prevent infected people from entering the US” : “UK planning to get everyone infected” : “UK not part of US travel ban”

It’s because he’s already on his way out so he doesn’t care if Trump rages at him for giving Pelosi some credit.

Yeah, my brain’s need for information and our natural human tendency towards anxiety creates a heck of a nasty feedback loop.

This was the Jerome Adams who said there was no evidence that people aren’t able to get tested and that Coronavirus is contained to certain parts of the country a few days ago?

A good rule of thumb: if Trump nominated a person, that person is a hack and Trump family loyalist.

ElGuapo’s bored and decided to troll again.

Yeah, that was obvious bullshit. They are rationing tests all over the country.

WTF? I wouldn’t have put her a day older than 70. That lady takes care of herself.

For most of us, I think the risk of actual death is low. I’m sure we have some 80+ members, and I know we have some people with illnesses that make them high-risk. We’re all worried for them, and for people in our real lives who are especially vulnerable.

But it’s not just death. It’s the hospitalization that scares me. Even assuming you get a bed, you could be lying there for weeks with a ventilator or a tube down your throat. As I understand it, in my age range (50 - 59), the risk of actual death is less than 2%, but there’s maybe a 5 - 15% chance of ending up in an ICU (it’s hard to get good data on that). That scares me.

Small news of import to no one but me most likely, but Utah had its first case of community spread this morning.

We have about a million hospital beds, not ICU beds. For ICU beds the figure is around 90k.
