No argument here.

Look for Comcast to impose a $50 “crisis cost recovery fee” for any customers who are still using their service after that period.

Some clarifications to that tweet out of France:

I recall reading elsewhere that the under 50 hospitalization rate (not all ICU) was around 10% - which isn’t low enough for most people to merely shrug off.

I think data caps are going to be politically toxic after it’s found out that Comcast handles this fine.

Welp, my lovely hometown of Berlin finally managed to get around on this…

Until April 19: schools, kindergardens, museums, pubs, clubs, theaters, movie theaters, sports clubs, and gyms are closed. Restaurants are only permitted to open if they can guarantee a distance of 1.5m between tables/guests. Gatherings of more than 50 people are prohibited, and it is required to keep a list of the names and contact info of the people who attended.

Yeah, that’s not a very safe-seeming percentage.

One can hope, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. This is Late Capitalist/Oligopolist dystopian 'Murrica we’re talking about. Sheer rent-seeking is considered A-OK by the federal government.

On the bright side for those younger, lethality in Italy is so far none for under 39 and only 0.1% for 39-50 years old (two 39 year old fatalities are the youngest recorded so far).

LOL, you act as though people who want internet service have choices that would allow them to comparison shop.

They will put those caps back in as soon as they can, because they can. Because what are you going to do about it?

I suspect you’ll see action taken in state legislatures first eventually.

You mean the ones that passed laws making it illegal to offer free municipal internet service at the behest of the big ISPs?

I don’t know about that. My Comcast service was going in and out yesterday morning. With several fairly long drops of service (say 10+ minutes of outage). I assumed it was related to our area being largely locked down with many major tech employers telling their staff to work from home.

Burpees.

Pressups.

Handstand Lressups.

Squats.

Leg raises.

Pullups.

There are thousands of variations and progressions on these basic exercise that can keep even the most gymn mad person going for a very long time.

Yeah I think this is correct.

Interesting thing, I was due to fly back Tuesday.

Flight’s been cancelled.

Interesting times.

Apparently there will be rescue flights, but the protocol is to show up to the airport early on the day and try and get on a flight.

That seems like a really shitty way to handle things.

It is 100% shitty and sucks, but can you think of a non-shitty way to handle something like this? Give too much notice and everyone’s going to cram onto the last remaining flights, even if they’re sick.

Probably no one will be surprised to read that it’s amateur hour at the White House:

Yes I can.

If you’re easyjet, you’re not organising rescue flights alone.

So, pool your resources.

Say, 10 planes from easy jet. 10 from. British Airways, 10 from jet2 etc.

You send those 30 or so flights to Gran Canaria.

You allow every single UK citizen a guaranteed seat, free of charge.

You can even send them all to the same UK airport, whereas currently there are flights daily to all the London airports.

The government did something similar when Thomas Cook went under just a few months ago, and got back some 100,000 plus UK citizens from around the world in the space of a few days, without this lottery aspect to it.

So, there’s a very recent, effective precedent.

By way of comparison, there are about 10 flights a Day between las Palmas and the UK.

Because it’s a national emergency, service goes out the window, as does speedy boarding, upgrades blah blah. Pack the plane full and bring people home.

Now, I’m well set up here and can live here forever, I fear more for those who can’t.

I’m also mildly concerned about mu5current (government) work in the UK.

Will I get paid if I’m not there.? :0

Hah, I have a heart rate monitor (Galaxy Watch). My daily resting heart rate is typically 72bpm - 78bpm. Something like that. Today (and probably for the last couple of days) watching the news roll in my average is 88bpm - 98bpm.
