I wasnt logged into Twitter (nor have on this new PC) and was just reading one of my food blogger feeds when I noticed the default trends for the UK this evening.

You should feel deeply ashamed for continuing to make these types of posts in this time of crisis. By all means criticize your heart out when this is over but until then we need to all pull together to get through this. Sort your head out mate.

Dont police me. You voted for him, this is your fault. You voted to kill your grandparents to save the markets.

and what part of the Brexit thread thinks this country gives a shit about each other?

Just curious, should the Americans avoid showing negative trending hashtags of Trump as well, or is this a UK only thing?

Just a UK thing - you guys can criticize Trump all you like ;)

No, please go to the Trump threads and demand everyone stops criticising him and the GOP.

We do realize this IS the P&R thread for COVID-19, right?

Yeah, fuck that. It’s not “politicizing a crisis” to hold our elected officials accountable. Move to an autocracy if you want everyone to treat your head of state like an infallible godhead while they are busy mismanaging a crisis in a way that will cost lives.

This picture is trending on Twitter right now near me. We’re stupid americans, so we’re doomed.

Isn’t all the basketball canceled?

I think it’s people celebrating St. Patrick’s Day all weekend. He was the patron saint of Ireland by dint of driving a great ribovirus out of it, symbolized by snakes in Insular art. They are praying for his intercession.

Meanwhile in Singapore, queues look like this now:

Our county shut down schools as of Monday. Makes sense right?

Except they are concerned about parents getting upset about having to take care of their kids while they have to work. While I agree that it is reasonable that our country fucks over parents in this regard (which will especially hit lower class parents who don’t work jobs that allow them to WFH) the problem is their solution to this is to set up the county’s emergency shelters so parents can drop off kids and county workers get to baby sit them all all day.

So schools are closed because having kids in one place interacting with each other will cause the virus to spread, but their solution ends up with having kids in an even smaller space interacting with each other and county employees (not teachers who are used to dealing with kids of this age) trying to take care of them…

Could just be a rerun of a previous game. That’s what ESPN did back in the day, before they could find enough things to cover 24 hrs. And it’s not like there’s a lot else out there in sports to televise now.

GOOD GRIEF. Obedience to authority level off the charts.

Nonsense like this has always been employed to silence dissenters. I still remember people being branded anti-American and unpatriotic for questioning/criticizing the Bush administration’s attempt to pin 9/11 to Iraq with the exact notion.

First death in Oregon from COVID-19 :(

This is kind off tangential, but: has anyone else noticed that we haven’t had a mass shooting since the virus started dominating the news?

Or are they just not being reported?

Not to mention all the “now is not the time to point fingers” after Katrina.

Crime in general is correlated to hot weather and other things that make it more likely for people to be outside, so it wouldn’t surprise me to find that crime is down in general aside from panic related stuff.
