I don’t see anything in that pandemic plan about making sure that 60-80% of the population is infected before August in order to build herd immunity That one is unique to Johnson’s government and is the part that I consider insane.
That aside, it would be a mistake to think this is just another flu pandemic. To quote Dr Tom Frieden (formerly head of the CDC):
The factors Frieden mentions are the reasons why most governments are clamping down with mitigating measures sooner than they would have done in a flu pandemic.

Well, it’s important to remember that most of us in the UK have local shops and convenience stores. My local Spar has plenty of TP, soap, handwash, and pasta. Most importantly, beer. Sooner or later all the panic buyers will have a year’s worth of loo roll and not need to stock up further (where do they put it all?).
