It’s just as likely the populist clowns will gain more power, not the reverse. Populism isn’t premised on being informed, and disasters have always been twisted for their ends.

The dude in Tennessee announced yesterday that he would donate his supply to a local church. But the AG did show up today to make sure he followed through on his promise
I’m back after working two weeks of cruises, the last ones for awhile as all the cruise lines seem to be shutting down. No incidents, just fun, but I guess the disease could be in one of us.
The testing to re-enter the U.S. from the cruise ship was stringent. The Customs agent looked at my passport for about three seconds and waved me through.
Going out to horde some TP in a little bit!
Nothing like scared people with guns who are drunk and/or stoned!

Historically, they do well after a crisis but not after governing through it.
This means WAR, Wheeljack! @SadleyBradley, @Ephraim, and @ravenight will you be my seconds? “Show Yourself” great honor, lads!
In NoVa I saw full bore hoarding of eggs, milk, TP, chicken, and pork this morning when I went to the store. Oh yeah, I also got the last box of Cascade powder in the Giant!

And $700 billion in QE. The economist type people I follow on Twitter all think this is a good move.
Wall Street banks will not be doing planned share buybacks either, so the money can be used for better purposes.
I realize that I might be the o Inly person who cares but what is the difference between hoarding and stocking up? Is it purely a situation of I’m stocking up, he’s prepping, and they are hoarding? Thoughts as I look at the 60 pack of eggs in our fridge (that is how our Costco sells them).

To be fair, the article said where he lived, his name and included a picture of him standing in his garage.
It wasn’t like some insane thing like trying to find out where Shia LeBeouf was hiding his flag.
You and I probably could’ve managed it with some time and Google Maps.
I guess I consider it hoarding when there is nothing… Not a single product… For sale in any of those sections. Did everyone suddenly develop a need to buy five dozen eggs? I don’t think so. And I’m talking a normal grocery store here not a Costco which is designed to sell things in larger quantities.

I think everyone who has Twitter should try to make the hashtag #TrumpVirus go… well… viral.
Lockdown was announced Friday.
As of today we have 382 people in ICUs due to coronavirus, out of 4.6k ICUs beds (adult size) nationally (+1.5k adult intensive care beds in non intensive care units), 700 of those in Madrid.
Healthcare is saturated, but not hospitals, since about as many cases as reported are being told to stay at home and self isolate.
Things are going to get bad because we are looking at two more weeks of exponential growth at least, which will push serious cases beyond the reach of our ICU infrastructure (there will be surge capacity, but unclear how much), but we are not there yet.
Your post has a lot of misinformation.

People are buying stuff like there’s a storm coming. But it’s nonsensical. This crap isn’t going to be fixed in a week, like with a blizzard.
Give em a break. People don’t really know what to do, so they’re reverting to what they know…buying stuff.
I hear that’s Mitch McConnell’s favorite song

It’s mostly a psychological effect which gives some people the illusion of control.
I am not the one who is claiming that the UK government is following that plan. But believe what you want. I do agree with you that continuing this discussion is pointless.
