The epidemiologists were the people who changed their minds. Because they got more data. That’s what we call science.

If the data changed that rapidly, then they were working with bad (or maybe more likely) terribly incomplete data. Honestly, that doesn’t seem plausible to me. Sounds like they are being thrown under the bus.

So, let’s summarize: The firm that basically created the mess that is WeWork by dumping billions of dollars into the company, also owns a patent troll that bought up the patents from the sham medical testing firm Theranos, and is now using those patents to sue one of the few diagnostics companies that is actually making a Covid-19 test… in the middle of a pandemic. And, demanding the use of those tests be blocked :

Take off, nuke the site from orbit.

It’s the only way to be sure.

Seriously, can Gingrich die already? He’s poisoned this planet enough.

Wait, if that is remotely true… suing to prevent a company that developed a test for Covid-19 from producing them?

I’m not saying I want some vigilante justice to happen to them. I’m just saying I would contribute to their attorney fees.

By God, that’s COVID-19’s music!

I must say, the whole thing with the UK looks remarkably like the old tendency of your leaders to be different somehow, because there existed an Empire once and it knew better, or something. Somewhat different/special rules while in the EU, different political group (for the Tories at least) etc. And now this herd immunity bullshit when the whole fucking world goes in another direction. And we have already had two confirmed cases with fresh signs of infection after seemingly clearing it from their system.

Yes. Haven’t you seen all the incompatible numbers on this very thread during the last month?

Counterpoint, lots of poverty there means less of a height to fall from.

Less integrated infrastructure, and even in the richer countries significant travel times between cities, means the spread could actually be less.

Kenya is among the richer countries, and travel not using Air takes several hours between the principal cities.

And there is only one main highway between the 2 largest cities.

So it should be much easier to lock it down.

Close the airports and train stations, stop the buses.

Easier than doing that in a country like the UK which has roads everywhere.

Plus the food distribution network is nothing like in the west, lots of people have small farms and eat local produce.

The UK relies on most of the food coming from abroad…

First case in Greenland . If Madagascar gets it soon, the virus wins.

Maybe not, West Virginia’s still in the clear.

Yeah, right… :(

We aren’t making decisions that affect the lives of millions of people. Moreover, we are talking about a course of action believed to be contraindicated by near every other country on the planet. Don’t you think they should be damn certain before making that sort of judgment call?

Two confirmed cases in my mother’s assisted living facility in CT. Fuck.

My wife runs an assisted living facility here in NH. She’s consistently been out ahead of corporate, State and Federal guidelines. Tomorrow she’s isolating the dining staff from the rest of the building. Dining will deliver meals to independent residents, nursing will deliver meals to assisted residents as nursing has to go door to door with meds.

That’s about as far as it’s possible to isolate within a building.

Certainly not incompatible to that extent. When UK’s plan was first announced, nobody here could produce numbers that would have made it result in anything but a massacre.

Their idiot governor is saying “go out and eat”.

He later encouraged West Virginians to go out if they want to.

“Go to the grocery stores. For crying out loud, go to the grocery stores. If you want to go to Bob Evans and eat, go to Bob Evans and eat,” he said.

Minnesota’s one step short of lockdown. Bars/restaurants ordered to do takeout only as of tomorrow. Schools closed.

I have no idea how the hell I’m going to say sane through this thing. Going to take a lot of self-discipline to push through into activities (taking walks, doing yoga(?!), etc).

Sure, I was just talking about how the public data, that with some added delay, is about the same and clearly incomplete, not that it was well used.
I can’t not agree that Boris’ cavalier attitude is borderline negligent genocide. It’s also going to be a big problem to go from “everything is fine” to lockdown overnight. But it’ll depend on many days off the UK is from other countries in the same stage, hopefully not much.

Hopefully it is still soon enough that the impact of the delay isn’t very bad.
