Colorado just closed all restaurants and bars state-wide, except for delivery and take-out.
First day for me and my family. I’m an introvert and I can do this for months. But my family is going to drive me fucking nuts.
Heh, I’m feeling that. I work from home normally so nothing feels differently to me yet, but I got in an argument today with one of buddies that I normally go to the bar and have a beer with. Since bars are a bad idea, it has to be one of our houses and we both argued strongly for the other persons house. Because we both wanted a change of scenery.
My GF and I were sitting looking out the window. I told her, “Ya know… other than going to the stores, we may be the only people we see for two weeks.”
This. We’re kidding ourselves if we think this blows over in a few weeks.

And the experts don’t think that indicates reinfection (testing error or dormancy are considered more likely). But you read into it whatever.
Noone in leadership in the UK has said “everything is fine.” at any point. The UK has moved more gradually to high levels of lockdown than other states. The UK is actually behind most of the big EU “lockdown” countries in disease progression at the lockdown step. But that doesn’t suit your worldview so you have simply discarded those facts.

As a fellow introvert I’ve been joking that this is the crisis I’ve prepared my whole life for. I’ve had a situation that’s mostly work from home (intermixed with a lot of work travel that is all now cancelled) for a while now. I’ve pretty sure there’s already been a stretch of two weeks where I haven’t left the house, or at least my property. My wife however is going to go stir crazy.

This is going to be a serious relationship test for a lot of people. Like a first road trip together, but with no idea of the destination or when it will be reached. I saw rumors today of the divorce rate in China spiking over this (take with large grain of salt).
We will be fine. Neither of us are social butterflies and we give each other a lot of space on a regular basis.
It was just… sobering to think that.

Oh, sorry, I didn’t mean to imply anything. Just speaking in generalities.
The data has been available for more than a week. A complete lay-person (in medical terms) like myself, had no trouble finding lots of papers with near-identical numbers. And the scientists in every other country in Europe - including a good number in the UK - had no trouble finding and quoting the exact same numbers.
So yeah - either they’re incompetent, or it’s a load of BS. I’d say the second, given that there were quotes from govt officials last week that quoted 400-500K as the potential death tally from the strategy.
Ya Greenland is bitch to get harder than Madagascar for me Sometimes, New Zealand is the hold out for me, they only have 8 cases today, so there is still hope for humanity.
I wouldn’t be surprised if we also saw a spike in childbirths in 9 months or so.

That’s pretty much a given, just like blizzard babies.

Our travel advice these days.
Just fucking stop dude. It’s not your job to defend Boris Johnson or to accuse anyone who takes issue with the government’s response of wearing partisan blinders. Maybe it makes you feel better but it doesn’t do anyone any good.
Out in the real world, here’s what’s happening. The county I live in has eight respirators to serve a population of 80,000. In the US, the nurses union is fighting with the American Hospital Association because the latter is saying we don’t have enough supplies to allow our staff to take appropriate precautions and the nurses are saying “how the fuck are we supposed to care for the volume of patients we’re about to face and avoid spreading the virus if we’re all sick and not following guidelines?” It’s not a question of when our healthcare system will collapse at this point but when.
My mother is in an assisted living facility that has confirmed cases. We can’t pull her out so all we can do now is cross our fingers and hope that she someone beats the odds.
If this gets loose in my wife’s building, no matter what she does, she’s going to have to watch her residents and staff die one by one.
So you winning this argument on the internet? It doesn’t mean a fucking thing. Our countries have been slow to act. We’re still entirely unprepared to mitigate the consequences of that. No amount of spin will change those facts and you continuing to snipe at folks who have concerns accomplishes absolutely fuck all that’s helpful.
Oh, I didn’t think so. But there was a but of an, “oh, shit, I didn’t think about that” moment on both of our parts.
