Ok, nice, but we will bank it. We still have jobs so we will save it for that rainy day when we may not have jobs.
People who are out of work will find it helpful, but it’s not buying that much time. We really need a plan for rent and mortgage relief. Those are the things that drain bank accounts when people are out of work. To me that’s the biggest fear.

It doesn’t buy a lot of time, but it does buy some. $1000 per adult can mean the difference between being homeless or not eating for a lot of people. You’re absolutely right that this doesn’t fix things long term, but we need triage right now.

I don’t think you can prohibit companies from stock buybacks in perpetuity. But we can and should prohibit them until the bailouts have been fully repaid.
Buybacks used to be illegal. Why’d we change that?

You don’t need to just block buybacks - also dividends, CEO bonuses and similar need to be blocked until debts have been repaid. Don’t underestimate the ability of companies to behave completely unethically with the money they’re given.
Yeah, it seems like the idea that younger people are immune from the worst effects was way oversold.
