Oh, I wasn’t disagreeing with you, just stating that is possible for a non-authoritarian regime to tackle the problem, unlike what we’ve been doing so far.
I wonder if CPAP devices could be used , should ventilators run out of stock.

I might have already linked this, but I will again. It is hope. It is a path forward. Lots of work to do.

Yeah. I’ve read a few articles about neighbors calling the cops because their neighbor is coughing. I’m just thinking, man if I cough just once while getting milk, people are going to freak out. Oh yeah, all the cold symptom stuff is disappearing. I’ll manage.
I really do need to stop… reading about this stuff. I stopped last night. It was great but then I got up and did it again.
It is pollen season too… and I’m now pretty sure I had a minor seasonal flu hidden by the allergies, well before any spike here… but my wife felt a bit under today, so maybe?
That and I’ve gained a new sense in noticing everyone coughing everywhere.
My IBS-C can’t handle this stress, but at least the TP will last forever.
(cough!)
Rational part of my brain: You coughed because you have seasonal allergies, which cause post-nasal drip, which irritates your throat, which causes you to cough. You can tell this is the case because it’s a productive cough; COVID-19 has a dry cough.
Lizard part of my brain: YOU ARE ALREADY DEAD.
That is fantastic news, and has huge implications for protecting especially physicians, nurses, and techs who deal with patients.

Wow this would do wonders for the country during this pandemic. Let’s hope the republicans don’t ruin it.

I am in exactly the same position. I’ve had an allergy-based cough for 2 weeks that is worse at night (to the point where I have to sleep sitting up). It’s really hard not to think I’m infected and have spread it around the world.
Yep, same boat. I alternate between “it’s allergies” and “You’re dead”

I was a bit suspicious about forbearance of mortgage payments, because it doesn’t help renters and it turns out it’s a bit more nuanced than that. It proposes forbearance of rent collection for people on public assistance, and forbearance of mortgage payments for owners of affected rental properties.
So I’ve been checking out Beijing traffic numbers.
IF we assume that China is being truthful about the number of infections going down per day (I don’t have an opinion one way or another, I know some people do though), that 7 day graph gives really grim look at what it takes to do that. My interpretations of the data on those graphs:
-
There is zero weekend traffic, with traffic consistently 40-50% down from average. That tells me that in order to contain this they have almost no economic activity going on in the weekend and everyone is just staying home.
-
While the weekdays have peaks that are only ~10% lower than average, their rises and falls are much steeper than the average. This really feels like people are only allowed to go to and from work, and thus broader economic activity is still being depressed.
lol here we both are… again! :/
We’ve just had out first confirmed case in the small country town where I live in here in CT. A town of only about 13,000 I believe. I don’t really know many people here so self isolating hasn’t been much of an issue. All of my family are back home in Ireland, I was seriously thinking about traveling home when news of this started to break but I couldn’t get it to fit in with a hectic work schedule. Now of course I’m working from home, but back when I suggested I could work remotely from Ireland they were certain I’d need to be onsite aka we don’t trust you mugs to work from home. But now we are all working from home and things haven’t collapsed, what are the odds…
Anyway, it’s too late to go now. Couldn’t chance going through the crowds of JFK and catching something that might put my folks at risk, my father is already going through some health issues as it is. So here I stay, but God only knows what I’ll do if I get news that my parents get it. Sitting here reading one alarming article after another is not doing my mental health any favours! Whoever it was upthread who suggested getting out for a walk every day was spot on
Reuters reported earlier today that in Wuhan, it was the first day since outbreak that there were no reported new cases.

If I see one more meme from a teacher gloating about how parents are finding it difficult to be teachers I am going to punch someone.

They invented the thing most in demand over the whole world right now, and she states they will take no profits from them.
Wow.
Yeah, if they can do what they think they can do, that’s a startup with a long-term focus that’s going to serve them very well once we’re a little past this pandemic and starting to look at business again.
