340 million Americans give or take and voters picked this idiot to be President.

Imagine if he didn’t have a massive media network 90% devoted to portraying him as Dear Leader 24/7.

He’s old, and he’s never had to answer for stuff before, shit’s hard…

Yep - so the solution is to minimize the details. You don’t have weeks to refine and debate them. Citizens may be unable to negotiate any qualification requirements or paperwork. Any back-and-forth application takes time, and every step introduces more opportunities for confusion, errors and delay.

Just send every adult you know about a check. Keep doing that. We can recapture it from the wealthy with tax policy in 2021 and forward. There’s no time to dither.

I’ve spent a couple decades optimizing processes and reducing cycle times. Reducing the number of steps, handoffs and opportunities for error is pretty fundamental to that.

Total agreement, Oghier. This strikes me as similar to what that WHO guy (don’t recall the name) was saying about pandemics: you can’t wait to get it perfect, you have to move. Speed is everything. The same thing applies here, we don’t have months to try to work on every little detail to try to make it perfect (which it never will be). The bottom is going to fall out of this economy fast if we don’t get help out there quickly. People need to eat, they need to feed their kids, and there’s a ton of them who have no income right now.

Could you imagine if we spent a couple months wrangling about this and that and ended up having a bunch of people fall through the cracks? What we don’t need right now is civil unrest and rioting.

This money is going to come back into the economy, it’s not a government expense that disappears into the ether. For the lower and working classes, it’ll go to food and other necessities. For the wealthy it’ll just be rolled into an investment or something else. For the middle class, they’ll have the peace of mind to continue purchasing instead of locking down all spending. All of that is going to hopefully help the economy grinding along instead of going into complete collapse.

Has this become a hate Trump topic or is it still a coronovirus topic?

Before this briefing, I had growing confidence that the federal response was improving. It looked like Trump had decided to listen to serious people and actually act.

That’s gone now. The “let the governors do it” part killed any hope I had for national leadership. As someone who lives in a red state, that is Trump saying “you’re all on your own lol.”

Can’t it be both?

They’re pretty strongly related.

There’s a SARS thread in the Everything Else subforum for non-politics discussion (as much as is possible).

Why can’t it be both?

Unfortunately the two topics are inextricably linked.

Why not both.gif

If the shoe fits…

This is the Coronavirus thread in the Politics and Religion subforum. There’s another one in Everything Else if you want to avoid political commentary.

Welcome to Earth. What’s it like on whatever planet you just arrived from?

Because major crises require coordinated government responses.

Guyz, why are we discussing Trump in this thread?!?!?!!

I think I might prefer another planet at this point :)

Because the nation is at a moment of maximum crisis and we’re being lead by a fucking moron. And that’s a fact.
