Huh. Maybe a his ‘n’ hers guillotine?

Small test in Vo where it’s locked down (3300 inhabitants). After identifying the 90 infected + isolating them, they seem to have gotten it under control. No new cases in days.

Sorry, I meant “dude” to refer to the Senator betraying his country in the specific obvious way, not Carlson betraying his country by undermining the very nature of agreed-upon reality upon which our social constructs all depend.

OK… I mean, this is getting crazy.

Next, I expect to open Steam and find a sale on Rimworld.

It seems like every reasonable way back to a working economy before 18 months involves using the next couple of months to deploy mass testing, mass production of required equipment, and super-aggressive followup and quarantine of detected cases.

I mean, it seems feasible to me? Very expensive, very intrusive, etc. but what other option is there? Everyone stays in their homes for a year and a half?

I’m expecting Trump and his Republican consorts in the Senate and media to just throw in the towel, UK style, and just say fuck it, the economy is worth more to us than your lives, and open the world back up.

Yeah, exactly. This isn’t a thing where it’s even seeming feasible to keep people inside their houses for 6 weeks, not to mention 18 months. So yeah.

We will do none of those things. They all require a competent federal government, particularly the executive branch and administrative state. All that’s been gutted.

I don’t think this is hyperbole.

How about some levity in here? Nothing like a little cosmic horror to brighten the mood.

Brief video of a floor at an Italian hospital (the forum is trying to embed the video but you can just click the link). Even the hallways are full of patients.

More Basketball players infected

That’s the nightmare – slowly suffocating to death in a hospital hallway, when they’re out of ventilators.

I’d just like to take this opportunity to thank Oghier for describing the nightmare.

That’s exactly what happened in Wuhan in the early stages.
I also heard from the Chinese news that the Chinese medical expert delegations to Italy said they are confused about how many people there still out there on the streets like nothing happened.

Is a mix of stubborness, unhappyness and greed. People are not willing to change their life even a bit. People don’t care if they die. I guess some of that is in all of us, unwilling to cede.

I think could also be a culture things. Hugs, shaking hands, living in near proximity. We mediterraneans are very warm people, very social. Normally thats a good thing but here…

It’s a good time to be an anti-social touch freak.

If this goes on for as long as some expect, 12-18 months, I wonder how it will change social behavior? People may get more used to staying at home, ordering goods online, streaming entertainment, getting groceries delivered, etc. Companies may get more used to workers working from home. Distance learning may become more accepted. Will handshaking and greeting hugs disappear?

Will people become more agoraphobic because of this if it drags on for a year?
