Never fear, folks, cuz Musk is on it!

I mean the joke’s kinda on Musk, because we’re going to need those ventilators forever now.
Coronavirus is not going to go away, and everyone who ever lives will be susceptible to it from now on. At some point we’ll get a vaccine, but it won’t be 100% effective.
Translation: “By the time we try to do anything it will be too late, so we won’t try at all.”
I’m waiting for him to call out a critic as a pedophile.
I think he’s kind of admitting that other people will make ventilators long before he gets around to it. Which is the point, that he was never going to make any ventilators faster than, say, actual manufacturers of ventilators, all of his posturing aside.

I read they classify deaths differently. So if you have heart disease and COVID-19, it’s often classified as a death related to heart disease whereas other nations would put a similar case in the COVID-19 bucket.
This goes back weeks and I have no idea where that came from, so take it with a giant grain of salt.
Ok, so some numbers on hospitalized patients in Spain: 10.542
Assuming the 20% hospitalization rate seen in China (that itselfs assumes few asymptomatic cases), we are talking about 50k symptomatic cases. We have a confirmed 20k, and we knew there were at least 20k in isolation with mild symptoms but not tested yet a few days ago, so it sort of squares out.
I was told by German friend (residing in Switzerland) that Germany’s fatalities are not reliable, because unlike the Italians they are not testing all deaths for COVID19. So, not just a classification issue, but also testing.
So I guess the next question for Germany is whether there’s a spike in death for certain age groups?

The good news is that there are only 199 verified Covid-19 cases in Russia. The bad news is that there seems to be a sharp increase in the number of pneumonia cases.

Is there a way to layer on all sickness related deaths on a per country level? I wonder if there’s a way to see the overall sickness level in a semi-reliable way to get around poor testing
The head of healthcare emergency coordinator here says they don’t understand Germany’s number and that there’s an European meeting scheduled to discuss them.
After the fact you can look statistically at increased mortality rates. That’s what you do, for example, with the flu.
It’s hard to get figures on how many deceased are tested, but I honestly don’t see the use in testing every single fatality for Covid19. I could not find any info on a spike in mortality for certain age groups.
One should also keep in mind that the median age of those infected is 47 in Germany compared to 63 in Italy. Germany currently runs 100.000 tests a week with a total capacity of 160.000.
Has any Western leader laid out a plan going forward? Hunkering down is essential, but I haven’t heard any leader explain the way out.
Like, “The reason we have to shelter now is because it’s out of control and we cannot identify who is carrying it. We’re working to get widespread testing online. Once we can start testing large numbers of people, we can isolate the infected and we can start getting society moving again. We’ll still need to maintain vigilance and continue widespread testing in order to identify and isolate any outbreaks.”

As far as I can tell, that’s the only workable plan but I haven’t really seen signs of coordinated action to get there.
Yeah, I’ve read that SARS hit hard on some Asian countries which is why they were prepared this time.
Also, as you already know, Spain is very social and we are very kissy/touchy, so that will be a factor too to account for. And we have a pretty aging population, another bad point here.
Wasn’t the Italian village of Vo the test case for this? They tested every single person in the village, identified the handful of infected and then isolated them?
How you ramp that up to the national level is the question.

One major airport might have had its weather operations eliminated due to this, and I might know someone who has it now (haven’t had contact in months, so no risk to me, but this is scary- especially since she’s in a higher risk category)
I don’t think the war forward will be clear until we have some more understanding of the severity of infection (not just cases) and the success of a long-term lockdown in Western democracies.
A day or two ago they asked people to switch to SD to reduce the server load. Now it’s going to be imposed.
