He is talking about Trump and/or policymakers not listening to those people. It has nothing to do with Nichols himself. I guess the government should fire all those folks without real expertise then. Who the fuck needs them.
I do agree with it. My comment was an expression of surprise that Nichols was calling himself that kind of expert, a surprise I still hold. And it takes two people to argue a point.
Well, my reaction was that his language included himself. That’s all.

That’s another great area to research! Everyone would love to know what the risk is from a delivered newspaper, amazon box, takeout food, everything else.
There have been some studies that did very extensive and detailed contact tracing on every possible infection for groups of individuals, documenting exactly how everyone got infected (these two people shared a car ride, etc.) I wonder if any risk estimated could be gleaned from that.

If you’re addicted to it, it kind of is.
New York has liquor stores, so that’s the only place to get booze. It’s not like say Iowa where you can get booze because it’s in the grocery store along with everything else.
It makes sense in context to me. Unlike… having mandated liquor stores in the first place.

Because it’s Tom Nichols, who is The Enemy or whatever.
Here we see Tom at home:

That’s true, but is NY so different they can’t get “spirits” in the grocery stores, basically beer and wine?
Back at ya. It is wine o’clock here after all.
And we’ve got our 4pm final for the day data lock-in for COVID-19 testing per the COVID-19 Tracking project.
End of day yesterday: 103,867
End of day today: 138,511
That’s 34,644 tests conducted in the US in the last 24 hours.
~27,400 conducted the previous day
~21,500 conducted the day before
~13,200 conducted the day before that.
Sunday at day-end lock in, ~28,000 tests had been run. In the five full days since, 110,000 reported tests.

New York City liquor laws limit the sale of wine and spirits to liquor stores, but beer is available in convenience stores, delis, and grocery stores.
You can apparently get beer, but that’s it. Outside of restaurants and bars, but that’s, obviously, problematic when they’re all shut down. Though some are apparently doing like a carry out system for drinks or something.
Why are you talking about my brother, who thinks the whole thing is a hoax?? :P

I got an email from my work about the WFH policy and that they have decided to allow us to continue to WFH for next week.
Like… wait a minute. You guys thought this might have blown over this week? Or that it’s going to be back to business after next week!!! Guys, the game’s not over, we’re just now lining up for kickoff!!
I feel like even with all the shit in the news a vast majority of people still don’t get it.

So I work seasonally for a large government operation that does taxes, and we went from a 50% shutdown last night to me just finding out that I have been given 2 weeks off (with pay). There are still people working from home but my job doesn’t allow that. They have closed the local office that employs well over a 3,000 people. I guess they are getting serious about this thing.

I wonder if they do delivery. Also… has DoorDash always been so dang expensive or is that new?
Yes, I know restaurant food delivery is a risk as well as a luxury. The restaurants are desperate. We’re talking about an area where nothing could be purchased for delivery… now all of them are on there.
NY 10,200 in the last 24 hours.
WA had 3,000 tests in the last 24.

I wish Florida would get its act together. Still not testing folks who haven’t had direct contact or international travel, but have the symptoms and flu came back negative.

I wish to Christ my family wasn’t basically all in Florida and stuck there right now, I’m gonna be honest.
I strongly suspect Florida is going to make Lombardy look like a picnic.

Many places here are advertising food pick up. Call ahead, have it ready for you to pick up when you get there. I doubt most restaurants can stay open very long doing that though.
