Things are starting to heat up in The Netherlands, especially the southern part which had more infections probably due to carnival some time ago. They are expecting a massive influx of new cases.

A friend of mine is a surgeon in the Southern part. The last couple of days he has being retrained for IC work with protective gear, to do medical work he hasn’t done in 2 decades. A lot of doctors are being retrained to create extra capacity. There is not enough gear to go around so they have to go 8 hours with one suit, so no eating, drinking and bathroom breaks for 8 hours straight.

My parents are in Southern Netherlands. They claim to be doing okay, but I am always worried about them.

Yeah we’re trying to assure our dad he’s probably not going to lose those routes, but I don’t know what they expect the drivers to do if they can’t… park anywhere. It’s illegal for them to park in a lot of places and of course no bathrooms.

In PA a few of the turnpike rest stops closed, but they can still park, get fuel and use the port-a-pottys that were set up outside. PA has lots of port-a-pottys.

I really worry that people are staying home from the emergency past the point of reason, even with true emergencies, and the death toll from that will never be accounted for.

This should be one of the easier things to account for after the fact. Definitely an issue.

Friend is freaking out on possiblity of covid19 becoming truly airborne (ie like measles). Any possibility? Seems from our prior experience with coronaviruses, this has not happened, so safe to say chance would be very low? Any thoughts?

I just looked out the window to see how many people were about there. Not many (I live in a pretty crowd street).

I noticed a guy was wearing gloves. Good I thought. Then he took out his cell phone and started texting with the gloves on…

asking for homemade masks… I still hope it’s a just sick joke, because, Jesus fuck.

Considering I am personally aware of a hospital asking their workers to share a single N95 mask for an entire shift (keeping it in a plastic baggy when not in use) I imagine it was real.
