Everyone get off of Scuzz’s lawn!

Wait, how big is his lawn? Were we gathered safely?
In Spain we know there are at least 30k symptomatic but not tested cases.
They are gearing up to perform 80k+ test a day (once the testing robots are set up) so that will change, but right now Spanish case numbers mean little.
For some reason seeing that chart immediately made me think of this, which I have now adopted as the unofficial COVID-19 social distancing theme song.

I remain unable to order tests through my place of employment. The word from management is maybe Tuesday. Sadly, we are way past the point now of containment, when testing would have been most useful. Cat’s out of the bag and testing is more about getting accurate numbers now than actually fighting the illness.
Spray down those packages before opening, I guess?
Take them into your garage. Wash your hands. Don’t touch them for three days.

That is what we are doing

Yup. Just put them in the garage (porch, whatever) and wash your hands. Open at least 3 days later. Procrastination really is the lazy person’s disinfectant.
I had to go to the local supermarket. It’s near the centre of a town which usually had a small market going and a mini mall with maybe 30 shops. They were all open and accounted for today. Market was on and busy. You couldn’t really avoid walking near people. And the cashiers at the supermarket weren’t protected in any way.
I also live near one of the 2 London hospitals which have started turning away patients. Prople don’t care. It’s all online ordering for me from now on.
Also, forget 5 kids in the neighborhood. England has decided to give spring break a run for its money:
Thousands or hundreds of thousands on the sea fronts, in the arcades, lounging around, …
Confinement is not a thing yet. Comparing the situation to my son who is Belgium: nobody leaves the house without a good reason. No gatherings of any kind allowed. The police will fine and refer people who break confinement to the courts. They are horrified watching how UK deals with it.
I guess we know which way our curve is going to go.

I had to go get some office shelving from a retailer in the US. It wasn’t surreal but tbh a bit predictable. Literally the PA was announcing on a loop between muzak that everyone needed to practice social distancing and remain 6 feet apart. Of course they had the checkers elbow to elbow, and the staff were idling around face to face, chatting.

My little sister, her fiance and his stupid fucking family are having a family gathering. It’s been less than a week, and they can’t handle just huddling in place for a minute. She has a day-care in her house. All this panic about not getting cleaning supplies, not having responsible parents, and now she just runs out to expose who knows how many people to maintain “contact” with family member. It’s like they want be the NJ family v2.0. Of all the people I know, she’s actually the one most at risk putting others at risk because of that daycare and all the people that are still going to work that still use it for their kids. One of the kids continues baseball practice.
I just can’t… even.

I mean, it’s true that bitching about this on the Internet serves no purpose.
But your argument about different groups being at different risk is dangerous. Sure, if those half dozen kids catch Covid, they’re probably totally fine. They’re also going to pass it onto their families. Some of those family members will be hospitalized, even if they’re just middle-aged. Probably none of them will die, but at least they’ll be taking away preciously scarce health care resources. And also resetting the clock on being able to lift the lockdown.
If people just think of the risk to themselves personally rather than others, this can’t end in any way except millions dying prematurely.

We now have security guards spread out all over the grocery store, who give a stern talking to anyone who does not maintain the proper distance.
(But I didn’t see them intervene a lot today. If there’s one thing the Swiss are good at, it’s following rules.)
I’m surrounded by idiots. Today was a nice day, so everyone flocked to the seaside. It’s a Lemmingocracy.

Local councillor Jimmy Brookes said it was “madness,” adding: “Skegness is packed, cafes and arcades are open.”
A member of the management team in West Wittering said: “The crowds were into the thousands - dispersed on to the large beach - but it’s the method of getting here… we’re at the end of a peninsula, there’s one way in and one way out.”

I think I am telling others not to worry who is on their neighbors lawn.

It’s not fun watching another’s family get decimated due to not taking this as seriously as they needed to be. If it’s all the same to you, I don’t want it to happen to my family or my neighbors. And when their dying family members take up a bed for not being careful, guess what, that bed is still taken even from people who were being careful.
It’s finite resources shared by everyone.
