And I’m coming around to the idea that there are just way too many idiots. Just got an email from the headteacher at school heavily implying that a lot of non-key workers had sent their children in today :(
Haters gonna hate, brother.

Oh I don’t have to guess at all. They have not conducted a food related study, or if they have there is no evidence of it that I can see.
Experts have been making it clear to avoid touching your mouth with your hands, as that allows an entry point to the virus. Having less receptors in your digestive tract is all fine, but what about your mouth and throat? Why does this same logic of preventing the virus entry via your mouth suddenly fall apart regarding food?
I’ve been using that worldofmeters page for a month. They update the current numbers quickly, but the detailed data and graphs are only updated once a day. I say it in case you see some differences.

Personally, I think if you’d rather not risk take-out that’s perfectly fine. It’s a point of contact with another individual who at the least has touched the packaging for each meal they bring over. Yes, you can throw away the packaging, sterilize any surface it touched, and wash your hands thoroughly but if you’re not comfortable doing that? I don’t see what the problem is.
I’ve stopped ordering food myself, either take-out or pickup. It’s just easier for me to grocery shop (grocery pickup) and sanitize once than to do it for each meal. I have a wife with some risk factors and two parents with significant ones, though, so I’d rather just limit my exposure and err on the side of caution.
It could be doctors are giving an ample quarantine time before releasing recovered patients, just in case. More probably the lack of testing in USA means most mild cases were missed, so the 636 closed cases were all critical cases.
My mother is telling me to disinfect my groceries after I buy them. Boxes, bags, bananas…
Did I mention she owns a MAGA hat? Last time I was there I also saw the new 2020 Keep America Great hat.

It seems pretty clear that Trump has decided that our lives are worth less than the economy. He’s going to do some very stupid stuff in a couple weeks and it’s going to make all the pain we’re going through now mean nothing.
And he only really gives a shit about the economy because it makes him look bad. We’re fucked, same thing I said on election night, 2016.
If things reopen but the population is skittish and still self isolating it isn’t going to make much difference.
Who here is going to send their kids back to school if they open up again in 2 weeks? I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do. They need to be in school, they stand to lose a third of this grade they’re in right now. But they also need to not be spreading the plague.

Tons of people are looking for a way out. Maybe not everyone will, but it doesn’t matter. If only 30% of the population in any given city doesn’t self isolate, it doesn’t matter if the number is 100%. The numbers will skyrocket again and the very thing we’re trying to avoid will happen.
I guess we’ll see if Trump and his cronies have the guts to lift all restrictions as the number of infected and dead continues to rise. In two weeks we’ll likely be seeing numerous city health care systems buckling under the load.
I’m telling you, the problem is some human’s inability to understand exponential growth and look into the future.

Thankfully Trump can’t order governors to remove shelter in place orders. He can demand it but he has no legal authority to do so. Of course I wouldn’t put threats of withholding of federal funds past him.
I hope the Governor of my state holds firm.

I truly think the only answer is, somehow, a global shutdown and quarantine for 30 days. Get as many leaders together and all agree that we need to work together. Shut every border, close every business (except the most needed) and tell people to stay inside for 30 days.
It would be the worst thing to happen to the world’s economy ever. But the alternative is a slow burn for years and more pictures of people dying in hospital waiting rooms.
Then you continue to deny entry to anyone from countries that didn’t shut down.
Probably optimistic to think you can say how things are going to go in two weeks, depends how stuff goes until then.
Can we all just call it quits on 2020? Just, shut down as much as possible, have the government send out checks, maybe refuse to have birthdays, and come January 1st, we do it all again, a 2020 redo.
We all just promise not to buy new stuff unless something breaks.

One week. The 15 days started last weekend. Today is day eight.
Yes, I am certain this question has never once occurred to infectious disease experts.
I think so too. Do what makes you feel safe. But arguing that the medical consensus advice is wrong, even incompetent? That’s a different story, I think.

The british left’s demands for maxium lockdown are proof, as if it was needed, that the left dont even believe their own claims about the deaths resulting from austerity. Since if they did the herd immunity strategy would pretty obviously involve less death than the would be caused by the depression that would result from sustained lockdowns.

Well that’s certainly an interesting take. Care to explain how austerity and lockdown are in any way similar?
