Isn’t Trump a known germaphobe? I think it’s a very safe bet he’s freaking out in private. I’m not sure that’s good – a panicked Trump is likely to be even more reckless than regular, dumbfuck Trump. And it’s not like it’ll stir him into protecting the public. He’ll focus on protecting himself and his wealth, as always, but somehow more so.
Maybe. There is a public health rationale, and presumably SCOTUS in theory can tell a genuine need from a manufactured one. ‘Slippery slope’ is, after all, usually a logical fallacy.

You’re almost certainly correct, if only because he’s a terrible bluffer. He plays his weak hands strong and his strong hands weak (though I’m not sure when he’s actually had a strong hand), so the fact that he’s all bluster about how much a nothingburger Coronavirus is means that he’s privately scared shitless.

Personally, I agree with you. I think SCOTUS would uphold quarantines in times of national emergency. But I still think there is an argument to be made.
Of course, I agree. And someone will surely make it.

This is just a reminder that our health systems have been overhwhelmed before, recently even…
People get ridiculously pissed at me when I mention the other virus that has caused this but… it’s not unheard of for this to happen without a less well known virus to be the cause.
We were so concerned when this happened before that… well we didn’t really do much did we?

I’m a little worried about the Wuhan Virus, but not extremely worried.
What I am worried about is our (the U.S.’) utter incompetency in responding to this. If this was a test run we failed big time. Lack of tests, lack of awareness, misinformation from the top, people not getting tested and going back into general pop, tests being DENIED … especially to health care workers. How the hell does that happen? The list is terrible. If there is a really dangerous strain that ever comes, we are woefully unprepared.

What other virus? Recently? Are you referring to Avian Flu? Swine Flu?

No. These are/were from influenza. Just a couple years ago even.
Mentioned up thread? I don’t recall seeing it.
New York is now making their own hand sanitizer to stop the price gouging.
Status check: Spin appears to be working.
It’s coronavirus. Calling it the Wuhan Virus is an effort to tangle it up with xenophobia and place the blame on the other. Look for a pivot to renewed calls for a wall and an immigration ban to prevent future dirty foreigner diseases.

Would you mind if we use its designated name, COVID-19? Your usage is totally benign, but there are a lot of ugly elements trying to push the Wuhan/China angle for racist purposes.
EDIT: Sorry, Scott just posted right before me, didn’t mean to speak in stereo.
You said it better, though.
To be consistent the same should be done for Spanish Flu and Ebola.

Which was probably the Kansas Flu. But, yeah… we’re not gonna call it that :)
Also, it is not called corona virus - that is a whole family a viruses that includes common colds.
It is COVID19 or 2019 novel corona virus.

Spanish flu was 100 years ago, if it was a crisis happening now I’d be happy to. I don’t know what the correct terminology is for it and if even if I did, 99% of people don’t which would hamper communication.
For Ebola? Does that name have a negative connotation in terms of a race or anything like that (seriously asking)? We don’t call it the Negro Disease or something awful like that, which is what Wuhan Virus wording is trying to do.

Ummm, it originated in Wuhan. From a bat. How is calling it the Wuhan Virus xenophobic? That’s where it originated, that’s what it was called before the WHO classified it Covid-19. Everyone calls the Spanish Flu the Spanish Flu. Is that xenophobic too?
Edit: But I have no problem calling it the Covid-19 virus, on request.
I apologize for my words, I got angry for a sec.
Is it racist to say “black plague”? Asking for a friend!
