I think there’s a zero chance that the inflection point occurs in Italy next week. It’s quite shocking how closely it mirrors Wuhan, from a drastically overloaded hospital system and just terrible stories on the front lines, to the folks leaving the area just before official announcement of a lockdown.
The only way to save lives may be paradoxically to put lives at risk, by sending medical personnel from across Italy to help in Lombardy to ease some pressure on the overloaded staff.
[Edit : it’s the same playbook as in Wuhan. Hopefully it works more quickly.]

EDIT: Here’s the relevant part of the full interview.

We haven’t even really started testing, much less the stuff China and South Korea have done.
We only started pretending to do something like… Friday.

People compare Boris Johnson to Trump but Trump would never, ever say “I’m not going to disagree with you there, you’re right.”

The original video had enough context to realise that he wasn’t actually suggesting doing nothing. It would take some who hadn’t seen the video at all (shortened or not) to think that. I suppose the criticism would be that he, as leader of the country, shouldn’t even entertain or mention such notions on TV.
He’s a stupid wanker who does everything off the cuff and makes it up as he goes along. He also lies every time he opens his mouth. No one other than his racist scum supporters believes anything he says.
What Johnson needs to do is what Trump needs to do, catch the virus and fucking die.

Johnson explicitly says in that interview that we should delay the peak of the infection. But youve cut that bit out and are misrepresenting the government position and stoking panic in a health crisis.
It’s fucking hilarious how all the “trust the experts” ardent pro-EU fanatics (not the majority of remainers) suddenly turn against the experts when there’s political advantage in it, you fucking worthless hypocrits.

I think that’s a fair point. It was a poor interview and Boris performed poorly in it.

Meanwhile, over in the World Leader in Dealing with Pandemics™, Barr’s DoJ is sabotaging attempts to reduce the spread of Covid-19 in immigration courts.
The problem with believing the Tory politicians is when they open their mouths, they lie, and their lies have been standard practice since before Brexit.
when they come out with something believable and that aligns with their policies and ideology ie “fuck business” or putting profits over lives, who is going to question it
Or…you know…wash your bum!
wish I had room for a bidet tbh. Great invention.

I’m starting to take extra precautions at this point. Anti bacterial handwash + bottles of isopropyl alcohol scattered in different locations throughout the house. Minimize use of public transport, no longer eating out or take-out food, washing hands after contact with others etc. I work from home anyway so I’m lucky in that regard already.
Are you guys doing this too?

Pretty much, although only using alcohol sanitizer outside of the house when there’s no immediate access to soap. I work in a fairly quiet office and don’t see many different people day to day, but the other four members of my household spend their days in schools, so unless they are shut down there’s a fair chance we’ll all be getting it I think.
There are… adapters, but I’m not convinced I want ice cold water shooting up around there.
One of my colleague, in fact the guy I work closest with on a day to day basis is off to Bali for 10 days. I am not confident that Bali, as part of Indonesia, is doing a particularly good job of taking this seriously, double so as Bali’s revenue is predominantly tourism based.
I am hoping my business updates our policies in the coming week or so regarding self-quarantining to include return travel from Indonesia. We are quite able to work remotely, so the alternative may be me self-isolating for a week or so when he returns…
The other things make sense, but what is this stuff in pursuit of? If you’re working from home, what would cause you to suddenly need a nearby emergency stash of hand wash and alcohol? Serious question because I don’t get it.
Well, there’s a shower right there anyway. At least there is in my place.

Mainly because I receive a lot of deliverys. So it’s to sanitize after receiving a package.
EDIT … and to encourage more hand washing than usual. You’re wandering around the house, see the bottle, use it. I guess like having sticky notes as reminders for things.
