My condolences, wishing you and your family lots of strength to get through this.

I’m very sorry for your loss. She sounded like a great sister. My sincere condolences.

Work from home log, day 285

Have not had a haircut for a year, and hair is now longer than in high school. Coworkers are starting to look worried when I join a videoconference. Bought hair clippers, watched youtube tutorials on cutting own hair, point of no return rapidly approaching.

Expect coworkers to look alarmed for different reasons during next VC.

You should donate your hair. Grow it out to at least 6-8" and it will be optimal length. The longer the better.

Hmmm this thread died for a few months it seems, weird.

Anyway, I am still hybrid WFH/in the office every other week.

Today I am enduring the smells of my neighbors smoker as he has a Brisket on the smoker, and it’s nice enough to have the windows open today. So I am doing system maintenance for customers while heavily salivating.

My company is thinking a full time return in Q3 this year, but who knows with Delta on the rise. 95% of our offices have been closed with only security and facilities staff on site.

Next week I’m back on campus for the first time since March 2020 for some in-person interviews with job candidates. I’m not happy this isn’t being done by Zoom, honestly, but it’s just a prelude to the mess that is going back full time in a month.

With delta on the rise I have no idea what’s going to happen this semester - we were supposed to be back in classrooms this fall but if we can’t enforce vaccinations (and it’s looking like we probably can’t, stupid red state) I’m suddenly very unenthusiastic about being on campus. Lecturing in a mask is going to suck.

I’ve been back at the office since early april, when I was fully vaccinated. I work down in the financial district in Manhattan and it’s a ghost town. Back in April, it was like that movie I Am Legend. Now, it’s just pretty empty.

My company is going to reevaluate office work in October I think. I know a couple of us have said we aren’t going back in at all (granted we do go in to our government site now and then for deployments). We are also being acquired with the closing this month so it’s possible the policy will change.
