I’m not against the Butcherbox concept, I just think you should save money subscribing and buying in bulk.
Grocery deliveries were tough to get there for a couple weeks, but at least here in NYC they have tons of slots now. In fact after posting above I went ahead and ordered a steak delivered tonight between 4 and 6 PM, along with some asparagus, lemons, and whole foods’ delicious prepared garlic bread.
Whole Foods also has english muffins that’re better than Thomas’. Shocking to say.
And I get 5% off the top with the Amazon Prime credit card to boot.
Just checked, no slots for Queens.
Took that screenshot just now-- but I’m in Manhattan.

Le Sigh.
At least distributors were shipping food so it’s not too bad. Varying quality. Lots of broken eggs. Imagine lasership but with eggs.
I haven’t gotten broken eggs from Prime Now or Amazon Fresh. They put them in little sleeves so they’re pretty well protected.
Definitely prefer Prime Now because they deliver in paper bags while Amazon Fresh has these gigantic boxes.

No problem getting delivery slots from Whole Foods in STL now, either. I assume they have hired a bunch of new people.
Sure, with 20% unemployment there are plenty of people looking for work.
Yeah, in Madison slots were hard to get, but the last 2 times I did it were no problem
Walmart pickup must be getting hammered, the first slot open for pick up was Tuesday May 12th. So I took that, trying to get a few items that my local grocery store was OOS.
They have a $10 off $50 order coupon for first time users, WOWFRESH

Well, I got my ButcherBox today, and instead of ribs they gave me a pork loin. No notice, no note about how they’re sorry, just substituted and f-u to me, I guess. They let me get a whopping $15 credit on my next box.
Guess I’ll be cancelling.

The wife has been going shopping without me lately. I appreciate her doing this, as I have health issues. The problem is, she is frugal. Too frugal. She buys store brand stuff. Like now we are using Great Value butter. Great Value anything is neither great nor a value. I was considering buying Kerry Gold butter because I’ve heard good things. We usually get Land o Lakes. Nope. Generic cow squeezins’ it is.

Whatever you do, do not get Great Value syrup.
Their bread is fine for kids sandwiches and stuff, but their syrup is the most watery colored sugar water I’ve ever seen.

Nope. It’s pure maple syrup or nothing. B if I can get it, but most places just don’t carry it. So far it’s just the butter. But I can see the slippery slope. Probably slathered with Great Value butter. :)

Yeah, I have the real stuff for me and the wife, the kids get the maple flavored stuff.
That was bad even by cheap fake syrup standards.

The funny thing is that real maple can be used in so many different ways. That is often how I empty a bottle. Braised dishes that call for sugar? Maple or honey have a deeper flavor. In a cocktail instead of simple syrup? That will work. And of course, waffles with real butter and maple. Sublime.
That is the only butter. Other butters bow down before it.
Kerry Gold is amazing, and still surprisingly easy to get.
I can appreciate the “pure maple of nothing” argument but when I want a “cheap” syrup for, for example, freezer waffles, I go with Log Cabin, which is less shit than all the other ones IMO. We tend to save the real maple for better stuff.
Dear god, no. If I’m out of real maple syrup for whatever reason I would just use honey or jam.
Any excuse for real maple syrup - even frozen waffles!
