So if the console players want to play this now, all they have to do is set their console clocks to release day and time and off they go?

I bet there’s still patches to come, so I definitely would not start playing as one might have to start all over again after putting significant time into a character.
I can’t tell if you’re just making a joke about consoles, but this has come up a few other times in this thread: there is no new console version (Xbox Series X/S or PS5) at all until some point in 2021. The only console versions available in the near future are Xbox One and PS4 versions, though they will play on the next-gen hardware and get the next-gen version free when it’s released.

I was. :)
But I had forgotten that CP2077 was releasing on new gen later.
It’s interesting that the day one patch is already out in the wild. I guess they’d rather risk spoilers than cranky children complaining about bugs from their early copy? Kind of a tough call, honestly.
Cranky people everywhere, and it’s all the fault of consoles. Remember, the delay was so these people with an early copy could have a better experience. Here, I have this pitchfork ready for you. Do your worst.

Maybe they want reviewers to be able to patch their copies?
Yes, and it’s also certainly possible there’s a different day one patch coming out. I assume they’re still crunching away.
Very much that. You don’t want reviews to be hampered by some of that stuff addressed by that Day 1 patch.
A guide for those that want to turn ‘obnoxious yellow’ into a full lifestyle.

This is why buying games on disk is almost pointless anymore.
I’m not convinced that if I reset an XB1 or PS4 to factory settings and didn’t connect it to the net, that the majority of games I have on disk would load and play.

They likely wouldn’t by design, bug issues notwithstanding.

I never buy physical games for PC. For console though I am about 70/30, in favor of physical. I am not even sure why but my collection of Wii games are and can still be enjoyed by young relatives.
I thought console disc games are designed in a way where they must be playable even if the console is never ever connected to internet. Cyberpunk included. But obviously it is much worse experience without patches.
Well the GaaS or multiplayer only games get around that requirement.

But this version appears to look better on the next gen consoles.

It does seem rather confusing as they do seem to have tweaked the graphics settings for the new consoles as shown in their videos which specifically differentiate between PS5/Xbox Series vs. PS4 Pro/Xbox One X.
My suspicion is when they talk about a next-generation version what they’re saying is a new version that supports ray-tracing and maybe is a bit better tuned for the next-generation consoles. But I’ve never seen it spelled out exactly what they mean. But I do agree that their current PS5/PS4 Pro and Xbox Series X/Xbox One X videos certainly seems to imply that the version they’re releasing next week is designed to run a bit differently on the next gen consoles.
