I think that’s true in theory, not sure whether it’s still true for the last gen and this one. Fully committed to going digital-only this time around, as disks are just an inconvenient proof-of-ownership token at this point. We are playing what we download, not what’s on the media.
Someday when I have a spare OG XB1 I’ll test that theory. Pretty sure the current firmware won’t let even me set the console up without an net connection.
And on-topic: pre-ordered, come on preloading!
While true, personally I consider physical media to be still one of the big advantages consoles have over PC, in that I can resell a console game. Like when I finished God of War and Detroit, I gave them back to a store where I bought them and got RDR2 for free for it, right when it launched. I would like it if at least consoles retained the physical distribution.

I worked in print for 12 years, and currently on enterprise systems for a sportswear company on the system where product design and colors are input.

ok dumb question. Does the preload include day 1 patch or will we be faced with the patch at the starting times on Dec 9/10?
I doubt it would include the day one patch because that’s the key they use to prevent people from playing early.

Yeah was hoping for a yes, but agreed, my gut was telling me it would not include it. Downloading 50GB+ at 7pm EST will have me playing the actual game on Dec 10.
