CANCEL CHRISTMAS!

They are already half cancelled with the covid. Cyberpunk failing would be like cancelling the other half.

Heh, yeah - That’s true.

Its just, every single time we get a major release, someone is worried that “the developers are hiding something” and “the game will fail”…Its just funny to me :-)

Kinda like how disappointed a co-worker of mine became because of No-Mans Sky - He was convinced that was the last game he was ever going to buy, and he planned his whole life (I’m exaggerating here a bit) around just flying around the galaxy, exploring it and having fun.
When the game failed to meet this expectation, he realized his life was going to continue the same as it ever had , and that angered him.

So - these days, I guess I just kinda laugh a bit at all the crazy antics we gamers make over an upcoming release of a game we eagerly await. (And there is nothing wrong with being eager for a game!).

Yeah, there are a lot of silly topics that fill the space when gamers really want to talk about a highly anticipated game that isn’t out yet.

That wasn’t my concern, or why I posted that link. Mostly I just assumed others, like me, were wondering when the review embargo was dropping. I thought it was strange that, allegedly, reviewers still don’t have copies.

The GOG countdown timer has updated for me. Night City’s not far away now! :)

Sure - but we all know what people think is the reason behind review embargos.

Well, you were replying to me directly, so I am saying I don’t believe that’s the case here. I just thought by now reviewers would have next-gen or PC game codes and be well under way, since we were told it was the current gen consoles that were delayed, so that seemed odd.

Do we know that the major outlets don’t have them already?

From the article I posted, it didn’t seem like it. I also found an article from Forbes from just this morning that indicated that reviewer had yet to receive a copy, as well.

Well, that article was from some dude I’ve never heard of writing for a site I’ve never heard of (not that I know everything). Forbes is mildly surprising. Still, a couple of things to keep in mind:

  1. Press have had extensive previews already (though not on their own hardware)

  2. it’s possible they didn’t want reviewers having 100 hours of play time And want reviews to reflect more early/mid gameplay (pure speculation on my part)

Reviewing something like this sounds like a nightmare. I remember doing reviews on long RPG type games, and it was awful. The expectation was that you played the game from start to finish, but with games often taking dozens off hours to go through, and that’s playing in ways that nearly no one would play (because they’re playing for fun, not racing against a deadline). A game like this…really, I sometimes wonder if early reviews should just focus on the first twenty hours or so, and then as people finish do a sort of follow-on thing.

Of course, I am guessing that a lot of the review material has already been generated through the pre-release playing.

There’s no reason a review of a 100 hour multipath experience has to fit the same format as for other styles of games. Maybe you have to write a book. People write books about Mozart operas, or France. Maybe these are more like that.

My guess it a good number of sites will do reviews “in progress”. This isn’t a title I need a review for, really.

Things have, thankfully, evolved a bit since I was in games journalism. Then, we were expected to “finish” every game. We’d get save games, and cheat codes, and buffed characters, and all that, plus walkthroughs so we could get it done. But the experience was so unlike what any normal gamer would go through, that I think it did not do anyone any favors. And it made reviewing games–especially ones you liked–a terrible experience.

If the programmers have to crunch, then dammit, so do the reviewers!

You got cheat codes and walkthroughs?! Wtf?! Where did I go wrong?!

Depending on the company, yeah. We’d get these folders full of cheat sheets and fact sheets.

Always tried to ignore it unless my need was dire

Any PC deals anywhere? My usual sources such as GMG don’t seem to even have the game available to sell :( Not really interested in paying $60 for a game.

Looking at GGDeals, which is always the best spot for bargains, it seems the best you’re going to do at the moment is getting a GOG code from CDKEYS for $55, which isn’t especially great.
