The reviewer for the Washington Post finished the campaign in 15 hours.

That amounts to a beeline with little side distractions, I suppose.

Yeah, the main campaign is around 15-20 hours which is in line with most (open world type) RPGs. It sounds like a good, core experience and I don’t consider that “short” since I know I won’t be focused entirely on that mission line. I think you can wrap up games like Pillars of Eternity in around that time, if you focus only on the main story stuff and play on an easier difficulty.

It sound like some of the sidequest chains are significant, and optional. But if you invest in the side quests then they have some sort of impact on the main storyline, potentially lengthening it? Definitely impacts the potential endings you are exposed to.

It would be pretty neat if they were able to loop the sidequests into the main quest somehow - making the stories integrate to an extent - but that might be wishcasting.

I have to be honest - the trailer gave me chills - hope CDProject isn’t just really really good at marketing.

I was playing an RPG called The Witcher 3 just last night so I can confirm they’re also good at making games.

Wish we had some prior example of some other game they’d developed turning out to be pretty good so I’d be able to answer that. ;)

But in all seriousness, I’m a bit of a Cyberpunk skeptic, but am hoping with some aggressive patching that this ends up being great.

Someone noticed the launch trailer contained a hidden message:

"The wait for Cyberpunk 2077 is almost over. It’s been quite the journey, and first of all we want to thank all of you for being with us along the way. We know there’s a fair amount of anticipation for the game, and very soon you will all be able to decide whether or not we lived up to the hype.

Launch day is always a mix of excitement and constant nerve-wracking, and with this being the first game we’ve developed that isn’t titled ‘The Witcher’, we’d be lying if we said we weren’t anxious to see what you think once you’ve sunk your teeth into it. With this launch trailer, we’re just about ready to flick the switch and see Cyberpunk 2077 go from ours to become yours.

We set out to create our most immersive world yet, and we believe that the stories waiting for you to uncover, and the relationships you’ll forge during your time in Night City, will stick with you for quite some time.

We’ve mentioned before that expansions will be coming, and while we’re not ready to talk specifics just yet, we will say that we’ve learned a lot from our work on both Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine. Our planned expansions will take you even deeper into the world of Cyberpunk 2077 offering substantial, story-driven content that’ll give you tough choices to make through impactful narratives that you won’t soon forget.

But before we get there, we’ll first be kicking off our free DLC program in early 2021. Just like with The Witcher 3, expect an assortment of free DLC packs to begin hitting Night City, dropping a bunch of cool stuff that’ll inject even more life into the world of the dark future. We hope you’re looking forward to them!

We want to end this message with a request. Once you play/finished the game, we would love it if you got back to us and told us who your V was. Our forums and social media are there for you. We want to know how you found Night City and what choices you made. We created a huge world for you to jump into, tell us your story."

I just have a gut feeling that I’m really going to enjoy my time in Night City. I was already waiting for the next-gen upgraded version, but now after reading that message, I might even wait until all the DLC are out and get the complete edition this time? Can I really wait that long? Maybe another year? Probably not.

I’m assuming (hoping?) with the short main quest I can blow through that on another playthrough making different choices. After all, how many times do you need to do the AI taxi cab side quest mentioned by every reviewer?

The concern would be if I have to do a bunch of other side quests to reach certain endings. That would balloon the time investment. We’ll see.

Never heard of it.

I do agree with you of course :). On the other hand it’s a new IP, new genre, and first person. They are trying to do a whole lot of new things - and will probably fail at some of it - like they did with W1 and W2. Hope we all get out of it what we want.

I’m optimistic, but have to manage my expectations at the same time.

Might as well wait until CP2078. Just imagine what they’ll be able to do then!

I think you should start playing it now, then get stuck in this game’s version of the swamps, then 10 years from now you can ask everyone if it’s necessary to complete Cyberpunk 1 before playing the sequel.

I don’t think this is wrong. People forget W3 was really a culmination of things they’ve been working on. Even so, I loved both W1 and W2 even if there were rough edges to both.

I’m never going back to that swamp.

Decent meta-joke though. Us Qt3 slow-pokes will get to it eventually.

Btw, I’m loving the banter in this thread. Expect it to last 24 more hours. Then the PC version gets released and the thread gets drowned in technical info.

Remember everyone on PC: Make sure you don’t update your drivers. Everyone always thinks they should have the latest drivers, but usually they break things. If you have your drivers from 2018, the game should run fine.

I can’t wait for this to go live. It looks amazing in trailers.

Good catch! I’m waiting for the XSX enhancements anyway, so this seemed like more fuel for the fire.

Not sure what Dolby Vision would really add over HDR for games at this stage anyway.

Well some people were expecting W3 to fail because CDPR had never done open world before…

The last game I got at release was Red Dead Redemption 2 and I played that game everyday for 2 months straight until I completed it. I’m hoping that Night City is a world that I enjoy exploring as much as I did RDR2’s world. I suspect, due to it’s nature, that it may not necessarily be as pleasant a place to discover. But, man, am I excited to see the sights.

Its better! No seriously, I think it is. More dynamic as it can adjust in real time as content is playing. 12 bit vs 10 bit, etc.

I believe it is coming to the game, I believe Dolby just jumped the gun on their announcement.
