This confused me, as an NVidia GPU gamer. :)
Hello fellow Nvidia GPU owner! To be fair, I was forced to update when Gears 5 came out, it wouldn’t launch without me updating my drivers. So mine aren’t actually from 2018. They’re only a year old.

It confused me as a PC gamer. :)
Me too and it’s hard to determine why exactly. I can’t easily separate my hesitation over the inevitable buggy state of the game on release vs. a genre/world that I find far less innately appealing than fantasy RPGs.
But, oh well, whatever, never mind! I went ahead and bought it and pre-loaded it last night because I know I’ll be playing it sooner or later.
Right, but for games that already happens. And no displays are 12-bit color space capable yet. So…?
That is terrible advice from a security perspective. NVIDIA has fixed dozens of privilege escalation vulnerabilities in the last couple of years.
I’m not saying you have to update day one, but staying close to current is sensible.

Same here, I haven’t pre-ordered for that reason. I’m sure it’s a lot easier for me to hold off since the Witcher 3 wasn’t really in my wheelhouse.
EDIT: Sorry @rrmorton I done goofed the Discourse.

correct, it down-samples it 10 bit but does offer some visual improvements over regular 10 bit. That can be subjective though. Biggest advantage is the dynamic adjustments while content is playing. HDR 10 is static. HDR10+ is trying to change that, not sure if its there yet.
I’ll stand by my opinion Atmos looks better than HDR.
To be fair, it’s very on brand for Rock8man.
I guess that depends on why TW3 wasn’t in your wheel house. For example, if you were to say you don’t like 3rd person games or fantasy settings…

I’m less of a narrative gamer and more for open world exploring and that sort of thing. I could appreciate how well TW3 was on the narrative front but it’s just not something I really get into with games (when I’m in the mood for that I grab a book or get sucked into a TV series). I never made it past Crookbag Bog in my two attempts to give some context (I have no idea what percentage of the game that would be).
I will say this, though: story in games is usually an eye-rolling affair for me that I try to mash buttons through as quickly as possible but I thought the Bloody Baron storyline was super well done and I get why the game is as well respected as it is. I’m looking forward to Cyberpunk but it’s more to mess around in Night City and my anticipation isn’t cranked up to 11 which will thankfully make waiting easier if the initial impressions here are that it might be best to hold off for a bit.
It’s partially tongue-in-cheek, since PC gamers are always obsessed with keeping the latest drivers, partially totally serious because that’s been my own experience. Maybe it’s because I’ve got such an old PC, but never drivers generally do tend to break things even though I’m mostly just having fun here.
@rrmorton: Re: Cyberpunk’s setting being unappealing to you/me/us. Yeah, I agree. But I think for me it’s counterbalanced with the game being in first person. It was always such a damn shame that the Witcher 3 had so many amazing details, and yet we were looking at it from afar. I’m looking forward to actually being much closer to the world this time.
I’m really intrigued to see how I relate to the world of this game. I loved W3, but I realized recently that a big part of that is getting to spend (virtual) time in the woods. I love being out in nature, and W3 let me. I’m not as big a fan of cities, and I think there’s some urban environments in this game… :)
Agree! I also like the fact I am not playing someone elses character this time. I get to make my own (visually at least) its not Geralt or whatever the witcher dude is called.
After spending a month (140 hours) in Valhalla’s medieval England, I am more than god damn ready to exchange forests for cityscapes.
When Skyrim went gold the QA team had a contest to see who could beat the game the fastest. The winner did it in just under two hours.
So, as you know, the length of the main quest isn’t directly related to the total amount of content in the game.
