We all have people who review games and who we generally align with. It’s not jumping the gun to temper expectations based on their experience with the game. In an ideal world, you then get pleasantly surprised. :)
That’s fair, though I hope the condition of ideal world won’t have to apply for a pleasant surprise in this case, given that our world is still quite some ways from that .)
I was waiting for a post like this. I’ve set my expectations low and I’m in for the ride no matter how much of a mess it is. I was just commenting on how the tone had shifted this morning. The only thing that changed since Monday is we have a big new patch, heh.
Witcher games had the foundation of novels to build on. I’m not sure it’s fair to hold this one to the same standard when it comes to writing detail.
This one has tons of lore on which to base itself, and the genre has its foundation in a huge number of novels, too. So there’s that?
I think the only way to know if the writing works for one is for one to play the game and judge by oneself. I’m keeping my expectations low because I usually prefer to be pleasantly surprised than to feel disappointed.
I would like to keep my expectations low, but that would be kind of lying to myself. If the writing and quest design sucks (i.e. I don’t like it), I will be disappointed regardless of what expectations I might tell myself to have or not have :)
FYI new nvidia drivers are out 460.79, specific for Cyberpunk.
Between the Cyberpunk, Cyberpunk 2020 and now Cyberpunk Red (takes care about 20 years after) RPGs and all accompanying scenarios, I think Night City and the world in general have a fair amount of well established lore and geopolitics to pull from. I’m not really familiar with it though (having not played those RPGs yet). So the quality and the storytelling aspects remain a mystery to me. But the material to write a good story should be there.
Speaking of lore, if anyone would like a spoiler free example of smaller stories taking part in the Cyberpunk Red world (which should be a fairly good basis for 2077), Seth Skorkowsky is an awesome source on Youtube.
He mainly plays Call of Cthulhu and the various Cyberpunk versions and has good tutorials (his Call of Cthulhu series taught me how to play the game before I joined my first one), fun war stories and in depth scenario reviews.
If you want a quick story, the CP Red starter kit comes with a scenario called “The Apartment”:
He also has a fun story from the Cyberpunk 2020 days on how a local real life estate agent became a badass recurring character in their games:
I think Cyberpunk is generally very grim, and yet has the potential to get into some really silly and fun situations.
I don’t know why some complaining of the writing, it seems superb.

…superbly pulpy. Like, you can smell the yellowish cheap pages on your hands with this shit. It didn’t fully register until I watched a stream with my native idiom, English isn’t my native language so I wasn’t fully appreciating it.

If you want an overview of stats and perks:
He also does a good review of the game:
I mean, I didn’t, but with a tag line like “DON’T MESS UP ATTRIBUTES” it has me interested. Damn YouTubers.

I’m sure the company they outsourced this to appreciates your compliments.

Hey, now. :) Even if outsourced, CDPR likely handled the direction/design even if they weren’t manufacturing the things themselves.

Of course. I’m just taking a jab at @Paul_cze’s unedning enthusiasm for everying CDPR related :)
Hey at least it says “made in Poland” !
I just canceled my pre-order on Steam (asked for a refund, I should say), I’ll wait until next spring when the game is patched and not $60.

I read all of Paul’s posts in this thread in the cadence of a televangelist or firebrand preacher. :)
After having seen this recently
I feel like I should be super offended

My PS4 copy won’t arrive until tomorrow evening at 11pm :( Oh well, I’m enjoying Fenix in the meantime.
