Pff console peasants. Fucking kids should stfu.

I know right? LMFAO! So true.

Speaking of which, if you bought Cyberpunk on Xbox and would like to return it, should be able to do so -

Xbox Support on Twitter: “Cyberpunk 2077: To ensure that every player can get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice. https://t.co/04TcniwVzy” / Twitter

Yup. I expected that. Once Sony expanded their refund policy on 2077, I figured MS would have to follow.

Man, what a fall from grace for CDPR.

This game feels like a game that did not have an 8 year development cycle that proceeded down one (rough, turbulent) path.

Rather, this seems like a game that had the original 4-5 years of work on it tossed into the bin, and was started back almost from scratch in early 2016 or so.

Well, a lot of that falls under “bugs ‘n’ glitches” I think. The underlying goal and design intent of the game seems beyond anything we could or should expect them to change.

I’m still having a lot of fun with this and I still feel compelled to sink even more hours into it, but the cracks are starting to show, and I’d only be able to offer a heavily qualified recommendation at best. I haven’t encountered any game-breaking bugs, nor a single crash, but (outside of the main story missions) it feels very rough.

In a way, it reminds me of Fallout 4–except I enjoy the core gameplay here where in that one I bounced right off.

Wasn’t it kind of obvious to anybody whos been gaming for awhile that this game was gonne be buggy as shit? I’m not excusing it, but since F76 and Anthem I am surprised ppl are stuill surprised that these games release shitty (well for consoles this time LOL).

I wonder if this will affect there future plans for this game… like MP and any sequels.

I was around 80 hours before I saw my first T-Pose. On a high-end PC, the game is fine. Much better than any Bethesda game at launch.

So it seems like much of the dialogue here follows the Bethesda model:

  • Yes.
  • Yes, but sarcastically.

Occasionally:

  • Yes, loosely flavored with origin story.
  • No, but actually yes just not right now.

Sometimes it appears like there are two competing options, but if you pick the wrong one you just cycle through some bullshit dialogue that actually circles right back around forcing you to pick the one true option.

That’s a lot of pierogis.

This is exactly right and I’m fine with it, though this game obviously took it too far.

The Witcher 3 started off better but its reputation was built upon years of accumulated quality that came after release from improvements, added features, and great DLC content. Not to mention all the mods allowing us to tailor the experience more to our individual liking. And same goes for the earlier Witcher titles.

It’s not that dissimilar to the GAAS model where the game evolves over time and you can bounce back into it multiple times over the course of many years as the game (and our gaming hardware) improves.

I know it’s a really poor comparison, but I keep thinking of how David Chase was a victim of his own success with The Sopranos. I mean, it’s not like there were extras behind Tony in season 1 standing in the T position or whatever, but it still seems like CDPR’s audience has grown past its comfort zone.

That’s because that idea of 8 years is a myth.

They made a concept trailer and put out that they were hiring, but the vast majority of the studio was finishing up The Witcher 3 and the subsequent DLCs.

Given that is almost certainly true, what they managed is honestly impressive, but should have been delayed longer. Their ambition bit them in the ass.

They said already time ago that initial trailer was part a recruiting tool. Later, their initial intention was to develop two AAA games at the same time, with two dev groups.
However, said plans were to the trash bin, TW3 needed all lthe people they could muster. In the end, the real development of CP didn’t start until the second expansion of TW3 was finished (mid 2016?).

I think folks really need to separate the actual state of the game from the narrative that some folks are presenting.

The game has glitches… But it’s not nearly as bad as some folks are suggesting. I’ve got like 90 hours into this now, and I’ve had one crash, and virtually no significant glitches. Maybe 5 times so far, total, something happened that broke it and required a reload… Which didn’t really matter because the autosaves are frequent.

Maybe on last gen, vanilla consoles, you have problems… But as i said, even a standard ps4 can play this game perfectly fine, IF you have an upgraded ssd drive.

I mean, sure, if you combined all three glitches everyone ever posts on Twitter into a video, you can create the narrative that the game is non stop glitches… But that’s not the actual reality.

Okay, but I’ve given the game about 19 hours so far and I lost around 4 of those hours to the Dum Dum bug.

*actually, reloading a save from about 4 hours earlier in the game didn’t take 4 full hours to catch up since I could skip through any dialogue scenes. Probably took me half that time to catch up. Still, it wasn’t an inconsequential bug that I could just overlook.

That said, I agree that the narrative that has taken hold is exaggerated.

I found a vendor in Pacifica with a legendary melee weapon that does 1050 damage. I can buy it, it’s ‘only’ 65k. But… I’m doubting if to buy it or not, if I already complain of the game difficulty being broken even in Very Hard (I’m level 23 btw), I suspect that weapon will only break the game in another way…

I also found a legendary assault rifle with 6 slots.

I haven’t had any major issues myself. I’ve seen one T-pose and several small glitches and annoyances but nothing game breaking, thankfully. I’m just about done with the game so for my own personal experience this was far less buggy than any Bethesda game I’ve played (not exactly a high bar, obviously).

I dunno man. This game is way glitchier than almost every other open world game I’ve played recently. And that includes indie games with a miniscule budget.

It’s also hard to separate the legitimate bugs from the half-assed systems. Are cops supposed to spawn in the same room as you when the alert kicks in? Are the cars supposed to feel this bad to drive? Are enemies purposefully this dumb? Is crafting meant to suck?

I trust CDPR to fix the bugs. I don’t know how they’ll ever overcome the performance issues on older consoles. As for the systems, I’d like to think they’ll work on them, but I have a feeling some of them are just going to keep being unfulfilling.
