See, these things just aren’t universal though… I mean, i don’t think the cars feel bad to drive at all. The enemy ai, at least on hard, sense in par with any other game out there. Hell better than most… Definitely better than say, GTA 5. Crafting is pretty standard…i don’t think I’ve ever seen a game with a “good” crafting system that i actually enjoyed sitting around and find.
And to be clear, all these criticisms are also totally legitimate. But they are pretty subjective.
Yes, but GTAV (and other games) didn’t just let you fire off magic powers (except Watch Dogs 2/Legion) or sniper shot through walls outside of the encounter area. The issue here is that the player’s toolbox includes options the AI can’t react to correctly at all. Is that purposefully bad AI, or just an unfinished buggy mess? Because if it’s the former, yeeesh!

Maybe it’s because i design AI for a living, for more serious and demanding applications than games, that i don’t actually mind the AI I see here… It’s what i would expect in a commercial game.
No game that has anything other than a trivially simple environment actually has AI which I would consider “good” in any sort of general sense. At best, a handful of games do things which i found “interesting” in very specific example cases, but even those games, when viewed overall, had AI enemies which were generally very stupid.
So I’m not seeing anything here that is surprisingly bad, at least to me.
I think it’s more glaring design flaw. They give you the option of firing at enemies through walls, or hack them bursting them into flames from 15 rooms away, but they don’t even attempt to search for you. They didn’t think how the the AI should even react to that kind of attack.
I won’t speak to the rest, but, objectively, any crafting system that requires you to click 63+1 times to upgrade the worst material to one of the best materials should see all of the UI designers involved cast into a deep pit they can only escape by filling it with their tears.
Oh and not just a click, either. A full second of holding the button down. Each time. So, over 3 minutes of doing nothing but.
Thank fuck for mouse macros…

Same here.
And I would also say the fact that the player has the advantage in a single player game is a positive not a negative.
I think the AI is fine but then I never used the advanced hacks you guys are talking about or sniped people through walls.
I dunno, having multiple actions that an enemy isn’t prepared to deal with isn’t what I’d defend about this game.
One thing I’ve learned while playing - dont use melee. Which sucks, since I made a melee character.
For anyone else who’s stuck with Dum Dum following you around you don’t need to reload an old save. I just took him into the middle one of one of those little gang set pieces that litter the streets and let him get shot down. He’s tough, and took down most of the gangbangers by himself, but he eventually fell. I then swooped in and finished off the last one. Rest in peace, double D.

I feel like maybe you could make a melee build if you paired it with stealth and hacking?

hacking
But if you invest in hacking, why bother with the melee?

I dunno, probably the same reason i use silenced weapons with hacking.
I don’t technically need to, but it’s fun.
I mean, the point of playing the game isn’t to make some kind of optimal build. It’s to do stuff that is fun.
Not that I went with it, but it felt like melee was pretty powerful at the start of the game. There’s an iconic melee weapon you can pick up easily in the dirty ripperdoc’s bedroom in Westbrook which, after upgrading it, does double the DPS of my best guns.

I’ve sunk a lot of points into stealth, and reflexes (blades) and I find the katana super effective.
Its not the killing people part of it, it’s the not getting shot to death by 40 people while I wear a tank top and a samurai helmet.

Yeah, I have to spend a lot of time sneaking up on people and disposing of bodies so I don’t get caught in a hail of bullets. And then I have a lot of points in my ‘oh shi…runaway!’ ability.

Yeah, melee weapons are super powerful… But the trick is getting close enough to use them.
So far have no problems with melee. Stacking Body with Tech. That’s already a 65% increase in Armour with Tech 13. Maybe that is what’s helping me? I can dodge and weave around cover and smash people in the face with a fancy cane I found or just my gorilla arms.
