Crafting is pretty broken right now. I’ve gone up to level 18 in the tree and I’ve crafted maybe 1(?) piece that I use. Upgrading minimally increases stats and you’re better off just finding a new piece.
The only really important perk is the one that lets you keep mods after dismantling, which will allow you to keep those legendary mods.

My main concern is putting so many points into Technical Ability’s if I’m not going to be dug that much crafting? I’d have to get it up to level 16 to grab it. Is it worth it you think?
I only upgrade the iconics and legendaries, and then only if I actually use them. Depending on when you get some weapons, they may or may not be cost-effective to upgrade.
As for side quests, my experience has been that they are generally quite good. I’ve had choices like different entry paths, different things to say, different choices about how things play out in several ways. And I find that V talks a lot to you know who, though personally I’m fine with a largely uncommunicative character.
I was way too distracted by her hair… pony tail… thing…

Any drivebys or carjackings on the way to the interview?
No, ha-ha, none at all…

Yeah, two tiny level-ups for an iconic gun and I’m out of crafting materials after looting everything and breaking down most of my items. It seems like there’s no point to the system.

Eh… This wasn’t my impression. I mean, most of the quests involve you either working with other characters directly, or have them in your ear via Holo communications. Plus you got Johnny with you.
I ended up caring more about the various characters in cyberpunk than any other game in recent memory.
Well having just experienced the Tech ability that allows you to upgrade lesser components into higher tier ones, I can indeed concur that while "Tech"nically worth it you will lose feeling in your hand. Also, as I primarily created a Tech/Intelligence character with a bit o’Cool, I’ve realized I may have sunk a loooot of points into Crafting without there actually ever going to be a payoff for my character.
To explain, Intelligence in the Hacking tree has its own perks to craft the more advanced hacks which are what I primarily use to do damage and deal with encounters instead of weapons. I do not believe you need a single point in Crafting to make any of those. Crafting does give me a ton of cash though, since you have to craft a bunch of “junk” to level up the skill in a reasonable timeframe.
I will add that Tech Ability has another tree called “Engineering” that may be a more useful path for the perk points since it boosts the Tech and Smart weapons I enjoy using. Its just a bit trickier to level up as opposed to Crafting
I use it to upgrade my equipment one or two levels from time to time, when I accumulate enough resources. Creating stuff didn’t seem worth it.
How much have you played ? You eventually find most resources, and have to buy barely anything.
One more thing: I used a trick with Crafting: the quickhacks you can craft in theory you only should be able to craft them once, if you don’t have it, but if you click the craft button more times without swapping to another item, you can craft them dozens of times (and you surely have enough hacking components). Craft ~50 to gain ~1.5 levels of crafting, and sell the the manufactured good for extra money.
I think what’s happening here is we’re seeing people falling into one of two playstyle groups with wildly differing experiences as a result.
You’ve got the first group, people like yourself I’m guessing, which are are mostly focussed on the main questline that are having a reasonably good time with it. You may be cherry picking the odd gig or side quest along the way but you’re mostly focussed on this area of the experience.
Then you’ve got the second group, people like myself, who are mostly doing the open world stuff and running into all the problems with the game. To give you some idea, despite my hours played, my main quest progress was up to the point where you do the first mission with Panam. I didn’t meet with Julie or what’s-his-face from Arasaka (I’ve since thrown in the towel. Maybe next year).
For those in the first group, I’m seeing all the positive notes. It’s clear all the polish went into aspect. I had a couple of bad experiences here but for the most part I have to admit it is pretty solid (if linear and unimaginative). However, for the second group the game is overall a disaster. Nothing quite ‘works’ once you get past the veneer. I wonder how much of that crunch time was spent just slashing and burning the open world stuff back to the point where it ran at all.
Oddly enough, I agree with this. Mind you, my usual degree of empathy with video game characters is something along the lines of “Cool hair. Next?”
Eh, maybe. My experience is the exact opposite. I’m 70 + hours in, and the last 15 or so have been after finishing the main quest (which took me a while because I lingered on other missions). I am very much enjoying the game, though I agree with all off the critiques about the technical issues, and many of the criticisms of the game’s design and conception. It’s just that for whatever reason the game nails it for my obsession with this sort of open-world first-person shooter/looter RPG whatever type of game.
I am finding all the non-main mission stuff pretty damn good. I’ve tried to help a prominent family discover who was messing with their minds, only to have them shut me out because they were afraid of retribution. I’ve solved a case the corrupt cops wouldn’t touch, helped a battered but honest cop find his nephew, and started a romantic relationship with him even though I told him I was dying. I mean, this stuff goes on and on, and even the gigs are often far better than a fetch quest has any right to be.
It all comes down to a couple of things. As a critique, I suspect I would pretty much echo a lot of what @tomchick has said, because as a critique, I’d pick apart so much of this game. It is, by what are I think pretty easily established critical standards, objectively bad in many areas. As a game player, though, I’m happy as a clam with this thing. It is very much like going to the Taco Stand in Athens, GA, when I was in school. The food was tasty as hell, very satisfying, and objectively awful.

How about putting the details on those cool side missions behind a spoiler tag, please?
And I spent 90 hours mostly just going to an area, effortlessly killing some punks and picking up a boring datashard. That seems to be the experience if you focus on clearing out each game area (I got the ‘It’s Elementary’ and ‘Little Tokyo’ achievements - not that I was aiming for those per se).
The game you’re playing sounds cool. Shame I seemed to have missed it. :(
Done. I figured I was vague enough, but different strokes, etc. Though this thread has transgressed that line quite a bit.
Then again, I’m the sort that drives my wife nuts because I read the end of a book first to see if I’ll like the ending.

I found a legendary jacket with 3 slots, one of them with a good mod. I splurged 122K into getting two more good mods and doing this beast:
(254 armor, +30% critical damage, +25% damage to moderate or high level enemies)
Maybe in four hours it will be outdated, but for now it rocks.

I’m in the second group. 60 hours and I still have in the early part of Act 2 in the main quest.
And the game surely will be my GOTY. The only thing really broke in hacking. The rest is fine, more or less.
