The thing is though, in 2077, you can actually go around and do a bunch of stuff besides the main story. The story just exists in this larger world. In Deus Ex, it was basically just the sequence of story missions. And I loved Deus Ex, but that was the biggest limiting factor.
Sure, but Fallout 4 was never released across two generations of consoles at the same time, either. It’s only on the last gen consoles where it has significant performance problems. Honestly, I feel like they should have just bailed on the last gen consoles… but then again, given the massive shortages of next gen consoles, that probably would have gone poorly.
But, at the same time, when it was released Fallout 4 absolutely had game breaking bugs that halted progression. Hell, every bethesda game does. On some level, I think we just expect such things, so they get a pass.
Like, some of the most amusing things I’ve seen in Bethesda games are the result of the glitches and bugs. Like when a dragon murdered everyone in a town in skyrim, but not the little girl (because kids are invincible), and then the whole rest of the game that town was just sad as crap because it had this one lone child wandering by themselves there.
Or a time in Skyrim where a town somehow agroed against a ghost NPC, and then the entire town started attacking the ghost… .who basically just murdered everyone. Although some of them also fell into the water and drowned.
I guess on stuff like that, I just take it as part of the experience.
Hey it’s cool. I am glad that 2077 is hitting a sweet spot for you and many others.
I also wouldn’t really go to the mat defending the stability of Fallout 4, I was just being playful upthread. I do think my experience in Fallout 4 was much more positive so I became far more tolerant of glitches, because I actually cared about the world and my experience in it.
On a purely subjective level, playing 2077 just keeps making me want to play other games like Fallout 4 for a more reactive open world, or Deus Ex for games that seemed to actually intellectually tackle with themes of Cyberpunk and transhumanism. Hell, 2077 is also making me think I should go back and give Witcher 3 another try; because despite falling off of it I got along with it better than 2077 and if I am going to be spending time with a CDPR property might as well go with a more polished one with a more thoughtful narrative. Again, those are just my personal reactions.
There are many details I like about 2077 such as the gunplay, how some of the scripted scenes are crafted, and the aesthetic presentation, but the sum has not been greater than the parts for me after 40-some hours and my inclinations keep being pushed elsewhere.
Maybe so. I am so immersed in Night City, I am likely seeing everything through a filter. And terms like
“Issues” and “glitches” cover a lot of ground, so it’s hard to say what you mean. The occasional oddity doesn’t bother me (one time, I cast contagion on a group, and one dude flew into the sky like he was shot from a cannon).
But bugs? I’ve had no quest bugs. Well, one, now that I think about it – there was some missing dialog in a mission briefing from Wakako (I think it was Sinnerman), where she called me and said nothing. The quest still worked, though.
I’m not saying it’s perfect. But it’s in good shape on release compared to other open-world stuff I also played on release. Again, this is on PC, though. It’s clear that it’s a mess on consoles.
Trying to judge a game’s buginess with a single data point (both positive or negative) is a fool’s errand. You need multiple data points, and average them out.
Your previous post said you have to restart every couple of hours, you get FPS drops, and you’ve had three crashes while you’re on a PC with a 3070 and 10700k. You can certainly say that’s not “significant” in your opinion but the issues do exist even on your above average PC.
Some glitches don’t bother me much. I don’t mind a random T-pose or a weird physics issue like boxes exploding because I bump them. At the same time, there have been some really crappy stuff like Jackie’s handgun floating through his forehead during what was supposed to be a touching dialogue bit, or getting a phone call while someone was talking to me so the audio blurted over each other again when it was supposed to be an emotional moment.
Sometimes a glitch is funny. Sometimes it undercuts what should be a serious or memorable bit. Sometimes it’s just annoying like a quest firing off weird or falling through the environment. Sometimes it’s really bad like a crash or process lock. I’ve seen all of these in Cyberpunk 2077.
Has anyone else completed all of the Delamain quests? Seems like I’ve had a couple of those bug out on me, and I’m tempted to leave them along with the car purchases as the only ones I’ve skipped.
Delamain has bugged out totally on my current run, as I cannot answer his calls. Of course, randomly, the game decides I can’t answer anyone’s calls, or somethings scan, or do many other things.
And I’ll echo whoever lamented the use of the same key for crouching as for conversation skipping. I have to change that I think. It would behoove the developers, too, to see if it is possible to insure that phone calls at least do not interrupt ongoing convos.
Even better, an option to TURN OFF THE FUCKING CAR ADS would be much appreciated, chooms.
Oh god, yeah, that’s one of my bigger annoyances. I don’t know how many dramatic conversations I’ve gone through crouched because the scene would trigger while I was stealthing.
Also, it’d be nice if having phone conversations didn’t disable my ability to double jump.
I’ve also recently been encountering a bug where occasionally aiming down the sights of my favored smart pistol will cause it to fire off a bust of shots. That’s led to a couple of Pulp Fiction-esque accidents.

It’s not a bug, but a feature of the gun iirc.
Why? No idea. The gun even comments on it.
Oh really? Huh. Neat! Must have missed that bit.
I guess I should exercise better gun safety and stop pointing loaded weapons at the heads of people I don’t want to kill. Yet, at least.
The thing that disappoints me so much about CP2077 is that there’s not really another game that hits the same notes - non-isometric, open-world RPG, with a single futuristic city as its primary location. Since playing it right now is out of the question until I upgrade some hardware, what’s the closest thing that would scratch the same itch? Deus Ex?
I didn’t play Mankind Divided so I can’t comment on that, but Deus Ex: Human Revolution at least would probably get you close enough. I’ve definitely been reminded of it a fair bit while playing CP2077.

The thing with Deus Ex vs Cyberpunk 2077 is that the latter doesn’t have nearly as many obvious vents to crawl through.
Yeah, everyone KNOWS the future is full of vents exactly the right size for humans to crawl through, and usually placed to allow access to the most sensitive of locations. Duh.

Quit my initial Nomad run and restarted today as a Street Kid. That opening is immediately more engaging and immersive. Wow, such a big difference as an intro to the game.
Also, I’m taking more time to stop and smell the roses. The game throws so much at you, it’s easy to relegate stuff to the back burner and just listen to Jackie’s prompts hurrying you along the main quest. I’m having a much better experience this time around.

Anyone been out diving the lake yet? What a trip…
The street origin is by far the best one. Actually, I’d consider it pretty much the only one even close to being fleshed out. It also makes a lot more sense than the corpo one.
I’ve finally run into a bug that pissed me off just enough to put this away. Regina now calls me when I get near a mission marker, then once I complete whatever task was needed, she calls me again to give the same initial mission briefing. 30 to 40 minutes later, she’ll call me to congratulate me for finishing the mission - while I’m in the middle of another mission, disabling my jumping or cancelling out whatever I’m trying to do. Since the calls and missions stack up I’m sometimes getting 2 or 3 calls one right after the other.
I’m tapping out. I love you Night City, but the game you’re stuck in is a real POS. I may catch up with you in a couple of months to see how you’re doing.
