I believe that the traffic “AI” (which is putting it nicely) completely shits its pants when npc pedestrians cross the street. So basically because neither they, nor the npcs on foot actually obey traffic signals you get nonsensical clogs at intersections.
Cars will sit through multiple green lights because of this and from other vehicles which are turning and then come to a halt because of the same random pedestrians.

The traffic AI shits it’s pants when there are no pedestrians within a mile of it.
Cars stopping on highway overpasses and the like is fairly common.
Some vids on YouTube like this one covering a posting by an alleged CDP employee, with the usual caveats, but pointing towards some relatively believable stuff. Including, it seems, a target timeframe of early summer this year for a revamped, improved, and possibly enhanced (with formerly cut stuff) version of the game for all platforms. Naturally insider postings like this are subject to a host of disclaimers and are best taken with multiple grains of salt, but the upshot seems fairly believable.
The nub of it seems to be what many suspected–top management pushing an accelerated time table, leads not willing (or not able to) accurately estimate work planning, and what is more surprising allegations of sheer incompetence and screw ups at multiple levels. The inside anonymous source claims things like pathfinding for cops that worked but was screwed up by mistake and wasn’t fixed in time for the game to ship, many, many now-locked doors that were at one point openable and led to lootable areas; a whole underground portion off the city that got cut; questlines that got cut because they had a bug that wiped out your save; stuff like that.
Whatever the accuracy of this leak–and of course, who knows what decisions will get made between now and whenever, even if the leak was accurate as to the here and now situation–it is probably not a bad bet to anticipate some serious fixing and massaging of the game over the next six months.
Which is good news, because as I enjoyed the thing immensely even with its flaws, I certainly think I’ll like it even more when they kick it up a notch or two.
I still enjoy this game tremendously warts and all but if they can pull a No Man’s Sky out of the bag, that would be awesome.
Yeah, I think I’m putting it down for now. I’ve got plenty of other games to play in the meantime and I’m not the sort of person who replays narrative-driven games.
Normally I’m not either, but this game is only half narrative-driven; the rest is open-world whackiness (in a good way) in the playground of Night City. In my two runs through the game already, I took very different paths and while a lot of what I saw was the same, a lot, maybe even more, was different.
But yeah, if they are going to revamp things significantly, a break then return might be a good call.
I generally count open-world games as being narrative driven for this purpose. The only one I can think of off the top of my head that I’ve replayed is GTA V and that was only because it came out on PC after the console release.
Understandable. I think the second playthrough will be quite fresh for me though, with all the additional updates, DLC, expansions, playing as different sex, different class, with different background, and in a different language (I played in english, will play in czech second time around).
I am already looking forward to it :)

This blows my mind. I see the same fat dude walking down the street, just with different clothes on. Maybe it’ll be a woman every now and then, just to change things up. Sure, I have other NPCs in the city, but this guy just stands out and makes it easier to recognize the reused asset.
Yeah, fair enough. For games like the Far Cry stuff, I generally don’t replay them, but this one has enough RPG stuff and choices to make different play throughs, well, different. Sort of.
I occasionally see a “pod” of like four or five or more identical people, which can be hilarious. Usually though it’s a fairly random collection of shambling burn outs.

One thing I like about the NPC’s is that when you are in a business/shopping district, you will get some in business attire checking their phones, or some that could be shoppers or tourists in nice casual clothes, while in industrial areas far from retail or offices you get all homeless or gangster types.
And the freaky children where they seem to have just shrunk adult characters. Or maybe that’s a bug.
Nah. I’m pretty sure those kids aren’t a bug. If you look at the kids in Witcher 3, they have the same mushed up faces.

Sorry, but my yum is never ever having to see this phrase and by typing it out you are unfortunately yucking my yum, so please stop.
I am glad kids are in the game, and don’t really mind their look or gangsta walk, but…it would be nice if there were some actual families walking around, or mom/dad with a kid…instead it’s always kids walking alone, which is lame

I felt quite the opposite: that this was a glaring example of the unfulfilled promise of the teaser trailer and the whole shoddy Potemkin facade of Night City by being rigidly scripted and easily broken.
Your choices when she invites you to join MaxTac are “no” and “no” rephrased.
The whole chopper and MaxTac squad outside in the rain disappear if you go a few steps and turn around.
The grateful clerk you save has lines about promising to give you a discount and pick out something special for you but he never does nothing of the sort. Tons of NPCs have lines like this that could easily be acted upon to show interactivity but nothing is ever done with them. No ambient conversations overheard lead to any other “found” missions like in Mass Effect.
BONUS: The MaxTac teams don’t even react if you start shooting civilians.
I’ll repeat myself a little bit here, but I like being able to phrase a “no” response in two different ways. That’s an enjoyable decision in the moment regardless of any gameplay consequences.
