On the one hand, this is true. On the other hand, the game world is filled with alleys, courtyards, construction sites, tank farms, railway sidings and underpasses that give just enough privacy to be the scene of a crime, each unique and each with distinct approaches for different gameplay styles. The effort all went into creating these and linking them together to create the illusion of a seamless functioning world.

The worldbuilding is unparalleled. There’s just not much to do there.

I was thoroughly entertained by everything there was to do for about 120 hours. But I guess I’m easy. Driving through night city with light jazz on the radio, in the blue hour between night and morning, as a drizzle fell… It was good.

That makes sense from what I’ve seen you post in the Elite. You seem to have a similar take on that game, where the shortcomings of the game don’t detract from your enjoyment of just flying around the galaxy.

I agree. I think it represents a good opportunity space for expansion. I’d like to actually see CDP create the tools necessary for other developers or modders to be able to create their own games within it. Imagine what say a Dontnod game could be set in the Night City, for instance, the avenues that could explore. Fanciful ideas I now, but it’s always seemed to me that so much effort is put into open worlds, but so little is ever done with them.

Interesting idea! For simulations, such as MSFS or DCS, this has been pretty much standard operating procedure. It could make sense for something like this as well (Or elite Dangerous, for that matter, come to think of it!).

I want it downpour ALL the time in the game. Sadly it barely ever rains.

Did this game have any memorable soundtrack pieces (not including any of the good radio songs) ? I only remember the cello heavy one that plays during the heist.

Oh, by the way…

I like the song on the intro screen.

The latest Cyber Engine Tweaks and Braindance Protocol are fixed against this. Or so they say.

Man, I wish I could have played the game you played. My copy had none of that. Out of curiosity, what was its “reflection on identity”?

Getting hacked through Cyberpunk seems thematically appropriate.

As is often the case, the primary subreddit for this game is a circle-jerk of performative hatred and memes. There’s an alternative, though, if you you’re looking for another place to discuss the game in a (mostly) reasonable atmosphere:

The puerile advertising also turned out to have no thought-provoking consequences or missions on future sexuality except retread of Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse.

Every now and then, social media produces something wholesome and good.

I am still hoping we will eventually get the game that CDPR’s PR team had promoted over the last two years. The game as it stands is a bit disappointing.

Yes, the marketing was tremendously deceptive. They showed that mission with Royce in the beginning with tons of choice and consequence, multiple ways to approach it. It was hella-cool. And in the end, that was the only mission in the entire game that worked that way.

Well, anyhow, can you imagine if this game would have been made by Chris Roberts? The kickstarter would have crashed the global economy and fifty years from now they’d still be selling images of the optional genitals you’d theoretically be able to someday purchase for even more theoretical use in the future game.

I haven’t kept up to date with SC so I decided to check their page. They are heading north of $343 million and pledges are still coming in at the rate of minimum $3 million per month. Incredible! The game is still no where near complete. Will this eventually become a one billion game?
