I’d never heard of ESDF until today. I read that and thought it was some spinoff of Earth Defense Force.
But hey y’all do you, I’m not gonna yuck your yum.
You know they’ll never find your body, right?

They even made a star wars X-wing pew pew game. Naw man, they’re pretty far from dead. Even regular flight sims are doing ok’ish.
I notice that in “picture mode” (hit the “n” button") i actually --or --sorry --V actually – has a nice ass.
To be honest? This game has problems. But I am liking it the more i play it.
Yeah, it’s a hoot, but it’s also a hot mess. I’m mostly ok with that. I can separate what the game should be (or shouldn’t!) from what it is, and even if it falls way short in some areas, it still manages to deliver a rollicking good ride much of the time.

Half Life Mod Day of Defeat was my goto for that klinda action back in the day. Then there was Unreal Tornament 2004 instagib mode + low gravity + Lightening gun = hilarity and cussing and tons of fun.
Not quick enough for those anymore but still enjoy online FPS albeit with the understanding that I mostly suck now.
Edit: Just catching up on thread as well :). Haven’t played since about 2 weeks after launch. Still waiting for more patching but getting the itch.

That’s… pretty significant. So it’s really still in development then. First person to third person? Removing whole classes of armor?

Yea, actually, now that i read it further down.

Yes it’s totally fake wishful thinking
Haha. Good one. Not.
Just changing everything from first to third person would be well beyond the scope of an update.
Lol it is a hot mess. But meanwhile i am sorta liking it. I mean I just did a headshot on some goon at 3600 damage, i have no idea how i did that.
Oh btw my V looks very good --I (unlike tom’s ridicule of it) love to play sally or suzy dressup,
My V looks great!
(then two people run off the edge of somewhere and it ends up being weird when I cant find them)
Anyways i lived through skyrim… i can live through this mess,’
My kingdom for a 1st and third person switch --though I have that mod from nexus that gives me a fat ass.
Yeah, I lived in Skyrim for many hours. Cyberpunk doesn’t offer quite as much variety, but it is still pretty engaging, and both games definitely require some tolerance for jank.

I don’t mind a liitle jank in my complex RPGs. It can be endearing at times. It’s whole systems not functioning properly and progress breaking bugs that are keeping me away. I long for the days when it is only janky.

I’m down with the jank, I’m just disappointed in the severe lack of ambition outside of the amazing graphics.
Bethesda built their radiant AI for Oblivion back in 2006. It allowed them to give each NPC a routine and have them react to the player. When you tried to go upstairs in a shop, the guy would follow you and give the stink eye so you didn’t rip him off. After finishing a quest, NPCs would literally walk all the way home if it took 20 minutes to do so. This was a committment to building a world that felt like it existed even when the player wasn’t observing it. It was a world built on systems, it wasn’t a paper-thin gamespace.
Compare that to Cyberpunk 2077, where NPCs and cars literally disappear when you turn your back, and guards spawn right out of thin air.

Exactly, and the jank that resulted from the radiant AI was tolerable and even endearing. Let’s call it Ambition Jank. Unfortunately, Cyberpunk is full of Incompetence Jank. Its just not as fun and does not enhance the experience. Minus the funny youtube video or 2.

Man, those patch notes raised my hopes a few moments before reality came crashing down.

When I played day 1 Skyrim, I did not see evidence of unfinished assets + gameplay systems littering the game.
Well, there is that :). Can’t deny that this game was not quite ready for prime time.
And I 100% agree with @stusser et al on the failure of vision/ambition here. Clearly the initial design for the game was ambitious, but as things fell by the wayside the response seemed to be to progressively jettison that ambition until what remained was a pale shadow of the original idea.
