Daft Punk Calls it Quits

When Orbital broke up, both brothers worked on their own projects. Paul Hartnoll’s first solo album, in my opinion, was right up there with the best of Orbital. And then they got it out of their system and they re-united for live concerts and then ended up reforming and releasing albums together again. So you never know. Of course, maybe brothers are more likely to re-unite than a duo who are not related. I don’t know.

My favorite track from them is Digital Love

That’s a fair point. I saw Orbital a few years back (2017) after they’d reunited again and it was honestly one of the best festival experiences I’ve had. The BBC Radiophonic Workshop even joined them for ‘Doctor?’ They were so good I had to see them again a few months later! Their reworked version of Satan is insane. There’s the full live set playlist here if you’re interested! The sound quality is pretty damn good too capturing just the right amount of crowd ambience but with the music nice and clear.

Such sad news. I was just reflecting on the fact that they hadn’t put out a new album in awhile. At least they go out on a high note, Random Access Memories was great.

No one forget the tracks they did with The Weeknd. Great stuff.

(Only pointing this out because it’s post RAM)

And I’ll use that as a quick chance to post the first song I heard The Weeknd in even though it’s off topic for the thread:

Just because I love it.

That’s too bad. I really enjoy their work.

And Daft nor Punk need actually perform, they could each hire a stand-in to wear the helmets.

Tomorrow’s shocking revelation: Daft Punk has been played by a couple of guys from Jacksonville named Jason for decades.

Daft Punk isn’t playing at my house.

Ha, I remember thinking they used the voice of Micheal Jackson when I first heard that one.

Nice to see all those songs here, I didn’t realize I knew (and liked) that many songs of them! Too bad they are quitting, but fair enough after all those years I suppose.

Weird - I was just listening/watching the Insterstella 5555 when this story broke.

But better to end on a high note - sad as it is that there (probably) won’t be anything more from them, there is no point in continuing if they don’t have the passion for it any longer.

I thought they’d put an extraordinary amount of effort into that farewell video, but turns out it’s just a clip from a movie they did back in 2006 called Electroma.

Yeah, the footage is actually from Electrorama.

I read this yesterday and it made me sad. But hell, go out on a high note and enjoy life. I’m sure they will do side projects and we’ll all be better for them whatever they decide to do post Daft Punk.

What’s crazy is the level they made hits at considering how hard it is to do.
