It’s really too bad; it seemed from reports that he was going to make it.

I’d still rather be Snyder and dead than Heatley and knowing I blew a dream future for myself, and killed a good friend. Jesus H. Christ, I wouldn’t trade places with Dany Heatley for all the chicks in the Playboy mansion. He’s going to be facing vehicular homicide charges, which would normally carry a 3 to 15 year sentence, but he can likely plea-bargain it down to second degree vehicular homicide which is just a misdemeanor.

So in American Celebrity Justice court, there’s a 90% chance he’ll get away with probation and maybe a revoked driver’s license. On the other end of the scale, if they decide to make an example of him, he’s gonna come out in 15 years and introduce himself as “Danyelle”.

I seriously doubt he’ll do jail time. Two of my brother’s friends were in a similar accident (though I think alcohol was involved, unlike with Heatly), and the passenger is now severly disabled. He did no time, pretty much under the “living with it is the worst punishment” theory. It doesn’t really have much to do with celebrity.

Very sad indeed. From all I’ve heard from my acquaintances in Chicago and Atlanta he was a very nice young man, who might very well have been on the verge of establishing himself in the NHL.
Must be a horrible thing for Heatley, and I hope he can make it back to doing what he loves to the full of his potential.
