You probably have come across it, actually.

Also, Smoldering Lake is, uh, intimidating.

I’m not sure what the trigger is, but I talked to him once I’d killed the tree boss and he gave me the key.

Now I’m curious! I mean how would I know which door it was? Perhaps I’ll go talk to him again and see if I triggered anything else.

The only other locked door that I definitely know about (and it wasn’t this key) is the tower outside Firelink, but I’ve yet to want to sacrifice 20k souls for it.

I’m not sure of the trigger either. I talked to him again last night, and he didn’t give me anything else. But then I talked to him again today and he gave me the key.

Remember when I was searching all over the place for where on earth I could use the Cell Key again? Before I found that door, I found another door in that area that I couldn’t open. So I tried this new key there and it worked! Don’t get too excited though, there wasn’t too much to do behind that door.

Yes, that’s where I thought it was roughly, for some reason I called this Undead Settlement but of course - duh - it’s still High Wall.

I thought the Catacombs were cool but kind of short, and then I got to the Demon Ruins and now I wish that had been it. Died twice (so far!) to Fun Slayer Blowrig.

The first time I tried to fight Lord Wolnir, he instakilled me within 5 seconds! Not entirely sure what happened - I went for one of his bracelets and boom, dead. Ok. The second time, I killed him in about 30 seconds. One extreme to the other.

Anyway, I am getting a little directionless leveling up. My Raw Longsword (+5 now) is doing a fine job, but I know it won’t last forever so I keep sneaking STR up a bit. No other weapon has come along that’s really appealed to me yet though.

I found another fire demon, but alas it bugged out on me. The demon climbed the stairs… and kept going into the roof!

Hmmm. First time I’ve encountered a serious bug in Dark Souls. Anyway, I really didn’t have any choice but to peck away at its foot with some arrows, and eventually it died. Anticlimax city.

So now I’m in the Smouldering Lake. It’s quite violent down here. There’s also the exit from Lord Wolnir’s room, so I’m guessing this area is not the main path.

Same thing happened to me with Wolnir. I can only assume that I got hit with his darkbarf attack which I saw the second time we fought.

I decided to avoid him and just make a dash to the boss. I ran up to where Anri waits and then dropped to the ledge, then ran over and chopped down the bridge. Tsorig had invaded me but I had yet to him. Then, looking across the now bridgeless chasm I watched as Tsorig just ran off the cliff and died.

Yea, that is a weird fight. If you get under him the gas he emits will insta-kill you. But with good timing and a few good swings you can kill him almost as fast.

Hmm, I think we are talking about different invasions. I killed him there (he invaded me in a dead end), but he comes back for Revenge.

Oh, you mean in the Ruins themselves by the lava pool. Same guy but a different invasion. He will show up first in the catecombs where you open up the short cut to the bridge, but you have to be embered for him to invade. The Ruins version is by far the more deadly.

The one below the rope bridge? I have never heard of that bug.

So yesterday I made it to the Pontiff, and after helping several others fight him I went in solo. I beat him on my third try. The first two guys who summoned me for help also summoned two others. Having four people in that fight (2 NPC’s) makes for a boss with one hell of a health bar and greatly reduced the damage you do with each hit.

One guy used dark magic the entire fight, so I am sure he needed others to keep the Pontiff busy. But he died before the boss. The second was strange in that it was just me and the host left when I died, then the pontiff within seconds. The host then sat and toasted me and I got full credit for the win, souls and an ember. I guess I lived just long enough.

Personally I love the Pontiff fight. I like humanoid bosses. They just work better for me.

Now with the Pontiff dead, we will see how far I get out the back door before I am invaded.

I since looked it up, apparently if you get too close to his body the dark mist surrounding him will just instakill you. I watched a video of someone else taking it on, and I never saw the darkbarf attack, nor did he ever arm his sword. In my case just a few hand swipes, which I blocked / rolled and killed him without taking any damage. Got lucky I guess!

That’s the one. I found one other video on YouTube of a similar thing happening, but otherwise I found no mention of it. I had more trouble fighting the damned mimic down there than the boss; kept screwing it up. Last night was weird!

Oh also, I found Anri looking for Horace. Then I found Horace, went back to Anri to tell her the news, and there was just a strange, glowing thing on the floor. Hmmm.

I haven’t been back to see her after giving Horace the heave ho, but was it a prism stone? Earlier she mentioned she leaves them behind to guide his way if they get separated.

Ah yes, I think you may be right! I couldn’t interact with it (I thought it was a dropped item at first) as it was sitting right on the ground. Never used those so I didn’t recognise it. Anyway it had the desired result “No, come back! I need to tell you I found Horace!”

I hate mimics, mainly because until hey go into full on attack mode you can’t target them.

Anri tells you earlier that she will leave those behind for Horace, that is if you meet her in the catecombs earlier. You may see them one more time, in front of a certain boss door, if you follow her story line.

I beat the mimic by going down into the fire demon arena, killing the two skeletons, going back and attacking the mimic, then rolling backwards into the arena with a small amount of fall damage, getting another arrow hit in before it reached me, and then having plenty of room to take it on properly.

I hadn’t been specifically following Anri, in fact I usually break these questlines because I end up doing something out of order (which is impossible to know beforehand unless you get lucky). So I’ve just given up with them, but so far I’ve maanged to keep the Anri one going. In Dark Souls it was Seigfried, who was there right up to the very end. I think I broke Seigfried already this time. Like someone mentioned earlier, I’m not relying on walkthroughs anything like as much this time, preferring to just let it take me along for a ride. The only time I’ve really done that so far was after I’d failed that damned tree fight too many times, and even then it didn’t really help much.

I don’t count this thread of course, because here it feels like a plucky band of rebels fighting for the same cause!

Yes, I am really trying to keep my internet help to a minimum (aside from things like build assistance), and it’s making for some fun surprises.

Good lord, finally beat the second coming of Tsorig. Note the hp and flasks remaining:

Hardest “boss” yet.

Road of Sacrifice: I need to go back in this thread and see how people did against various enemies. The crystal sage was giving me enough trouble that after a few runs, I actually backed off with a homeward bone. That way I got to keep the experience from all those runs, just reaching the sage. Then I took a different turn and went back to the two plump dudes who were kicking my ass before in this open area in front of some stairs. I got lucky this time and there was only one guy with a big hammer this time. One on one, this fight wasn’t bad at all! And a lot of fun. His friend actually joined him before the fight ended, but I was still able to take care of these two. And only on the second attempt!

God, that fight was a blast though. It was so nice of them to provide a nice big fighting ground. All 3 of us were running running running. I think that’s what made the fight feel so unique in Dark Souls history.

Then I climbed down to Farron’s Keep area. Luckily I didn’t have too many deaths over there yet. Just one death to Curses. Subsequently I went in a different direction, and extiguished two flames. Does that seem really wrong to anyone else? Good guys light flames, they don’t extinguish flames. Nothing good can come of this, I can feel that this is wrong somehow. After extinguishing only two flames, I actually reached another bonfire, so I figure this is a good stopping point.

Maybe tomorrow I can take on that Crystal Sage again. I always reach the point where there’s a million of them. It becomes pretty hard to avoid fire from every direction. That’s a pretty fun fight, I have to say. Another unique fight in Dark Souls history.
