Ok, I looked it up and yes, it does actually look like a blast! Might give it a go later.

Man, I absolutely love sunbroing. Hanging out by Champion Gundyr right now helping other folks.
Lookin’ good:
Well Aldrich is kicking my ass! I really need to find some Titanite Chunks to upgrade my Longsword further, because I much prefer speed over power when fighting anything that doesn’t get staggered. So far I have a quality build and the combination of the LS +6 and Astora Straight Sword +6 (no infusion yet) is pretty good, but I’ve yet to find anything that beats the LS for my preferred playstyle. I’d have probably gone a different route with my stats had I known earlier in the game, more of a Dex build.
Anyway, Aldrich is so far outside my league I can barely land any hits, and I don’t fancy fighting my way through all those bloody fireball throwing freaks again to see if I can find a summon sign. So I’ve gone back to the Profaned Capital, explored that until I hit a fog gate, and then on the way back found a path I’d missed earlier that leads back to the dungeon. Well, a toxic soup at least. But at least I found my dude again. Went back to Firelink, alt-tabbed out for a break, and the game crashed. Actually it nearly always crashes if I alt-tab out, I keep forgetting not to do it!

I didn’t find a summon sign when I tried for Aldrich (and in fact I got invaded and killed for my trouble), but if we could coordinate a time I could drop a sign for you, although I have no idea how the matchmaking works. I can put some kind of password on it, right?

I don’t think I have ever seen a summon sign there except next to the bonfire. You can run past them for a solo attempt if you stay to the right and then dash past them. There is some good treasure in that room though so do explore it.
I have never done that either. The password thing. The Steam forum might explore it. Guys are always on there asking people for help.
That is a pretty good fight but at this point in the game it is pretty beatable. Did you find the large crystal lizards on the way there?

I almost told you a couple days ago not to do that. That is a no-no with this game. In fact I think that for reasons I don’t know you can be banned for doing it. I guess FROM thought it was a way for people to avoid being invaded.

Wild, I have definitely alt-tabbed…I hope I haven’t been softbanned! No crashes yet. Guess I’ll stop doing it.
I did find the lizards. That whole area is pretty cool. I eventually beat the Champ (if you look at the image I posted, I am wearing his armor [and the helmet which I think you can only get in the place you go after beating him]), maybe two or three tries, can’t recall, then I did three summons to help others crush him while wielding Smough’s Hammer, which was fun.
I don’t recall you almost telling me not to do that. I mean alt-tabbing is pretty much muscle memory for any game after doing it for years when I want a break. Had no idea From thought this was a bannable offence, and if so they should put that shit up front because that’s what PC gamers do.
In fact I just alt tabbed out again to tell Kolbex what level I am. (SL 70 btw) I’d assumed the only way to match was to be similar SL, no idea about the password shenanigans.

Sounds like password matching ignores soul level (or rather scales it to the host). We both have to have the same password set in System (Network tab) I’m gonna go stand outside Aldrich for the next little bit with password set to “quart23” and set my sign down.
Edit: I’m there! Right outside the fog gate, just at the top of the stairs.
Sorry, only just seen this. Let me see if I can get this working…

No problem, I’m still there!

Putting my sign down again! So close! That arrow rain is the worst.
Woo! Thanks Kolbex, you rock. I very nearly died again that second time too, down to a sliver. In the chaos I completely forgot my infusion, but we did it anyway. Or rather you did it, and I chipped a bit off as well. :)
Actually, I didn’t forget the infusion. What I did forget is that you can’t add resin to an infused weapon, duh. I only just got it Sharp infused about 10 minutes earlier, not used to it yet, but it hits a lot harder than it did before that’s for sure.

My pleasure! I don’t know how much damage I did, but you definitely did most of the heavy lifting by keeping aggro and staying alive. I love the MP in this game. I wouldn’t want to co-op the dungeon diving (that part is too immersive for me), but nothing beats lending a hand against some of these rat bastard bosses, that’s for sure.
So I went back to the toxic swamp area of the Profaned Capital, found my way back to the Dungeon and rescued Siegward (again). This apparently was a good thing because shortly thereafter I decided to go through the fog gate at the Capital and the good fellow joined up with me for the giant fight! He made it trivial.
What was not trivial, however, is where I got pulled back to next. I had the feeling something really nasty was about to happen, and with nearly 60,000 souls I put on a Ring of Sacrifice. Good job too, as I died within seconds. At least I was able to use the souls to grab another couple of levels.
So, the Dancer. I’ve put about half a dozen attempts into it so far, trying to figure it out, and it’s not easy. Half the issue is fighting the camera around those pillars. Of the two phases, if I can get it to the second phase I actually feel safer, but I still haven’t been able to pull it off, mostly because I don’t get past the first phase. That grab attack is pretty lethal. So dashing in, getting a hit or two in, then running away seems like the best approach so far, but the best I’ve done is about 40% health remaining. Not ready to call in a summons yet, want to see if I can solo it first.
I finally made it through the Catacombs (those Sheherizade skeletons are the worst!) across the rickety bridge (very Indiana Jones moment) to High Lord Wolnir. To his hit points, and how little damage he takes to his hands and his face, I must say: wow. That is one well armored/protected son of a bitch. This is going to be an interesting fight. I’m not sure exactly what’s happening in it yet, since I feel like an ant that doesn’t know what’s going on in this giant room I’ve stumbled into. I’ve got a feeling once I get a few tries at it and figure out exactly what’s happening, I’ll have a much better shot.

I had read your posts earlier saying you did it but I had never told you not to. I should have. In reading the Steam Forum I have seen people complaining about being softbanned for doing it. As I said the reason is supposed to be so you don’t alt-4 everytime you are invaded.
The Steam Forum also talks about saving your save. Something you can do manually by manipulating some files outside the game. It is supposed to be frowned upon by FROM as well but it seems like lots of people do it so as to protect their saves should they have hardware or software problems.
The Steam Forum is a pretty good resource outside the guys trolling there.

Ignore his hands and face. Just hit the glowing bracelets. Also, read the message next to the dropped ladder, on the Wolnir side.
That wasn’t very nice of FROM to do that. Even now on later plays I go into the previous fight with homeward bones loaded so I can use them as soon as I show up in the Dancers Room.
As for the Dancer, try infusing a sword (if you can) with lightning.
So true. Plus you get to relive the fight over and over.
Where are all the Titanite Chunks in this game? Unless I keep missing them behind hidden walls or something, I’ve found a grand total of 3 for the entire game so far. So I upgraded my Longsword to +7 ages ago (like, 40 hours ago!), but everything else is stuck on +6. I do have a shit ton of Twinkling Titanite though, might have to find a weapon that I can reinforce with that instead.
I’ve been trying to limit how much I expose myself to spoilers and walkthroughs on this playthrough, so I tend to avoid places like the Steam forums! I’m not averse to looking things up (weapon upgrades, mechanics, how to beat that damned tree boss) but I’m having plenty of fun without knowing too much about what’s coming next. So I hadn’t seen any of these warnings.
I must admit I have alt+f4’d out a couple of times because I got really frustrated and wanted to rage-quit rather than go through the long, drawn out process of quitting. Never during an invasion though, just me failing spectacularly and needing a break. As for Alt-tab, I tend to do that now at the main menu out of the game, it seems a lot more stable (I used to alt-tab out at Firelink, but that led to numerous crashes) but I’ll try and avoid it from now on.
