Haha. There’s so much awesome. The other guy pointing, the fact that it kill him. Heehee.
Finished this up a few days ago. Steam says 78 hours played. I later watched a speed run where a guy beat it in an hour. I really hope Dark Souls 2 can at least live up to this one, but hopefully surpass it. Gywn made me rage a bit. He wasn’t too hard, but a couple times I guess I got a bit overzealous and managed to die when all he needed was one more hit. The ending was even lamer than I thought it would be, but I don’t really mind.
How’d you beat Gwyn? I’m playing a mostly-magic-less build, and just cannot kill him. I’ve tried a few dozen times now, easy. I can’t summon Solaire (had to kill him back in Izalith), have tried fast builds, tank builds, etc. I’m just not doing it right, it seems. I can easily get to him (those black knights are a joke at this point), but I just die when I get inside. Last night I decided to just abandon it and start the new Tomb Raider instead. I’ll try again in a week or so, but man, it’s disheartening. :(

The knights outside of Gwyn’s room drop a shield that resists 100% physical and provide enough protection against fire so that you’re taking very little fire damage. Block his attacks while dancing around one of the structures in the room to create enough distance to safely regain stamina. Green blossoms help, too. More than anything you need patience because one misstep can result in death and it can be a little difficult to read him. Or just summon some help?

I followed your advice re: the Capra Demon and it went really well. Breezed through the Depths, and oh. Oh. Blighttown. It’s just so tricky to get around. Tomorrow I’m going to resort to using a guide just to get the hell out of there.

If you have the pyromancy glove, level it up to +15 and have Quelana in Blighttown ascend it to +5, and then pick up Combustion and Greater Combustion, which have no stat requirements. Equip the Bellowing Dragoncrest Ring and the Dusk Crown if you got 'em. From where you enter Gwyn’s chamber, ahead and a bit to the left there’s a stalagmite or something sticking up out of the ground. Put it between you and Gwyn, keep your shield up, and every time he finishes an attack routine poke yourself around it and give him a quick blast from your flamethrower. Simple and very effective!
Use riposte. Get close and time it to the hilt of his sword. Start with a few zombies to get the concept down. It takes very little practice to trivialize the fight.

So much this - parry riposte makes him one of the easier bosses. Without that skill set he becomes one of the hardest.
For me I had the ring which reduces fire damage equipped. I always stayed lightly armored throughout the game so when I fought him I was still able to roll quickly, though I limited my rolls since he just destroys stamina. I used flash sweat before entering the fog, but I don’t think it made much difference. When Gwyn tries to grab you, roll away, switch to two hand and hit him once before quickly switching back. His recovery is pretty slow after a grab. He’d also do a 4ish hit combo and I’d attempt to two hand him quickly after even though I would have no stamina after blocking the hits. I think healing was the most frustrating for me. He’d almost always get a hit on me directly after I healed.

I need help! I’m in the first bonfire in Blighttown and my weapon broke. Is there any way for me to repair it? I don’t think I have any items to help with that.

Go back to the smith, repair it, and buy a repairbox.
If you are only at the first Blighttown bonfire and don’t have access to the blacksmith… the first merchant sells repair powder. From the blighttown bonfire, turn right and go back down the stairs, across the small bridge to your left you will see two knights with spears. Kill them and the clear boxes covering the stairs. Go down and you should find the merchant.

There’s a merchant in Blighttown!? Amazing. I didn’t even find the second bonfire there until my second playthrough.
I didnt play much Dark Souls, but it sounds like Angrycoder is talking about the Undead Burg. Blighttown is a different area right?

Oh yeah, you’re right. I just figured there was some hidden area with knights in Blighttown. But that’s an exact description of the Undead Berg merchant.
Holy shit, yer right. Don’t listen to me. I was totally confusing it with Undead Burgerking.
There is a merchant in Blighttown, but you need to trigger him in the forest of pvp before he moves there.

arg I had my hopes up Angrycoder! :P I guess I’ll have to trek my way back with a spare weapon.
Angrycoder, teller of lies, bringer of false hopes.
Keh heh heh heh.
It would be fun to follow those directions literally and see where you end up. My guess: bottomless pit.

Nah, Blighttown has a bottom.
