krok: Did you find the lantern in Tomb of the Giants? It’s not nearly as bad once you find the lantern because you can actually see.

This morning I tried Chasm of the Abyss briefly, thinking that same lantern would come in useful. Unfortunately, Chasm doesn’t have all those blue lights that illuminate on the walls like in Tomb of the Giants.

Ok, Sif is down. A bit easier with better armour and the Cloranthy ring. Now I’m about to take on the undead dragon in Valley of the Drakes. After that I’ll head back into Tomb of the Giants. Yes, I’ve got the skull lantern rock8, which certainly does make things easier to see, but just the whole gloomy thing I find depressing. I mean, it’s meant to be… right? Doesn’t mean I find it a fun place to visit!

I don’t know, I found the blue lights along the wall very cheerful. Place felt like a disco to me after holding up the lantern. I didn’t find it gloomy at all.

You mean apart from the giant skeleton beasts and the freakish towers of skeletal thoraxes? :o

I killed the undead dragon, got a nice looking straight sword but which seems like it might have been more useful earlier in the game. I really want to upgrade my lightning halberd to +5, but that’s going to take at least 6 titanite chunks, and they’re a bit thin on the ground. I may have to look at another upgrade path for something else instead. The claymore is nice, but I ended up turning it into my divine weapon for the skeletons, but once I’m rid of that place I might revert it to something more useful.

I did not mean to denigrate you. I have never beaten O&S without Solaire. In fact I don’t think I ever even came close. So congrats.

Why not. You deserve to brag :)

Ok, I finally give up. I’ll ask: how do you slide down ladders? I thought it was an addition from Dark Souls 3, but I just looked up a video on how to get Kalameet’s tail, and the guy slid all the way down the ladder!

I’ve already tried every button combination I can think of on the 360 controller, so I just don’t get it. What’s the secret?

I never figured it out in DS1. With DS2 it was easy, and I have seen people do it in videos but I could never figure it out. I played on the PC with a XBox controller.

I think in DS1 it’s tapping the B button. In DS2 that makes you jump off the ladder.

A simple Google search confirms that.

You have to have no movement then hold sprint/B while on the ladder and you will slide down.

Warning - if using dsfix and the 60 fps hack certain ladders will cause you to slide right through the ground and off the map, eventually killing you.

That’s the secret! I knew I’d be missing something obvious. I’m so glad they changed this for Dark Souls 3.

Yup, I would bet I was always trying to move down while I was hitting other buttons trying to slide down the ladder. I think the DS1 ladder drop buttons makes you release the ladder in DS2 leading to falling.

It’s very rare, in fact it hasn’t happened to me yet and I’ve been ladder sliding ever since I figured out which button to press (in Blighttown I think). If in doubt, release the slide shortly before you hit the ground, and walk the last few steps.

It hit me 3 times before I gave up on it, so it’s not that rare, though the speed of your computer likely plays a part given the issue. That’s a good idea about letting up before you hit the ground though, wish I had thought of it.

I tried it, and as soon as you press B, (as long as you’re not pressing a direction) the character starts sliding.

…and doesn’t stop sliding no matter what direction or button you press, until you get to the bottom. Unless I’m missing something else obvious again. So I’m not sure how you’re stopping before you hit bottom krayzkrok, and slowing going the last few steps.

My repeated attempts at trying to get Kalameet’s tail were miserable failures tonight.

I’m kind of tempted to just skip this and go straight to the Lordvessel and deposit all my souls and go to the ending.

I can hear Tim James whispering in my ear: This is optional. It’s all optional.

Get out of my head Tim James! Shut up!

I’m sure I’ve been stopping before the end. To be honest I’ve been playing this game so much lately that it’s hard to remember what you can and cannot do. I’ll try it again later, maybe I was dreaming it.

But then your game of Dark Soul will be over, and who wants that right? ;)

I will not be silenced!

Getting dumb tail weapons is optional. Beating Kalameet and Manus before the end of the game is not.

If you must have the tail weapon, try some YouTube videos for tips. They’re all over.

I took a brief break from trying to get Kalameet’s tail. I went through Chasm of the Abyss. I found Manus, the hand of Fate? It was pretty funny, that first time, Manus pounced on me before I could even move and killed me. And then I ran all the way back and killed Manus on the second try. Take that Manus. Feels good to beat a boss like that without even knowing her moves. Thank god the fight didn’t last any longer though, I noticed after she was down that I was completely out of Estus flasks. And that’s despite going in with 15 flasks.

So I guess it’s down to Kalameet and feeding the Lordvessel.

Though, I just thought of something else. That creature in the starting area. The one I ran into when going back for the peculiar doll. I wonder if he’s beatable. (Yes, I know he’s probably optional. Shut up mental Tim James!)

That was anti-climatic. I spent 40 minutes trying to make the jump at the firelink shrine. I finally made it, and then that Undead Asylum boss took me 30 seconds to beat.

While I was feeling like a demi-god, I also went to that Dragon on the bridge, and took him down with my dragonslayer bow. Time to call it a night. I might not have beaten Kalameet tonight, but I beat a dragon.

I remember a time when Rock8 and I were both around the same place. Meanwhile, back in the Tomb of the Giants… Ugh, not having much fun in here. Without the skull lantern you can’t see, but you have to sacrifice your shield in order to see. That means lots of rolling, and oh look! Lots of narrow ledges to fall off. I can’t take on those skeleton dog things by hand, but they do burn up very nicely with a single Great Chaos Fireball.

I need more Titanite Chunks to level up my lightning halberd, but those things are scarce. In fact, no idea where to get them from. So I’m probably going to have to upgrade something else instead. Tempted to go back to my trusty halberd, and level it up to +15. I might also just trash the divine upgrade on my claymore to get that back to something more useful.

Currently on a narrow ledge, with bone towers sprouting in front and behind of me (monster closets!) while being sniped by a giant skeleton archer. This bit must have been designed by the same guy who did the outside areas of Anor Londo.
